Why? Well that arch capitalist Henry Ford once said when refering to the colour of his model T Ford. "You can have any colour you want.....as long as its Black". Well Royal Mail have the same attitude when it comes to new dutys in our office. You can have any duty you want as long as its the 1 in 5 we already have.
A revision driven by buisness needs and staff asperations one on par with the other. My arse!!
They have planned the savings many weeks ago all they have done is fit the georoute and IWT to reflect it. The maximum savings come about when our office follows a 1 in 5 structure. Any other duty structure that gives staff what they want (more Saturdays off) and i get, "oh that will mean Saturday only dutys, or SAs". So what you dont make as many savings as you thought then? ......Hard luck you will get them next year or the year after. One way or another RM will get them savings they always do. This year we want to RM to stick to the BT2010 and give us our 1 in 4, or 2 in 6 anything just give us more Saturdays off!!! What was the point of jointly producing a "Menu of Duty Options". Its like having cheese sandwiches for lunch day in day out and RM then opening a canteen only to find the only thing they make is cheese sandwiches!!!!

AFAIK a revision has to have the backing of the members. If you don't want a 1 in 6 then vote it down and send it back - we are going to 1 in 6 rotating soon as it was voted in by members (atm its fixed day offs) and will bring in 1 in 4 when P&L hits.

My DO went for the 1 in 4 Saturdays off, which means we had fixed days off for the remainder of the rota. I would have liked to have given it a go, a lot of our PTers had managed to get their contracts increased, which lets face it is why we come to work. To put money in the bank! BUT we're in the area that's had it's Revisions Suspended, and I suspect will never have them implemented because there's not enough saving in there for RM's liking.
TBO half the Office is happy with the Status Quo, they remain on their old duties, they can run round and knock off early and they haven't got to move "outside their comfort zone". They were shitting themselves thinking they'd have to learn another walk!
As for the other half. Ask any Part Timer or Reserve if they feel any sympathy, most of them are covering at least 10 plus duties! Especially when the Regulars come up to them and start the old.."Don't walk across No 5's lawn..No 2 likes his mail left in the porch...No 9 doesn't have a letter box etc"! FFS I'm on a different Duty every day . Get a Life!

please dont take this the wrong way. But why dont you and the members in your office say you will not be agreeing to any revison until you have the 1 in 4 opportunity.
Go to disagreement if you have to , if your not getting the support of your area rep /divisonal rep go above. Do not give in !! As long as your members support the 1 in 4 then dont agree the revison until it is in.
Thats what we have done in North West London who are in the Thames Valley Royal Mail region and the London region. Of course the duty structure does change when you do have improved attendances but as long as your recognise that my advice is stand your ground and say to management that there will be no agreement to the revison unless it includes 1 in 4. Remember no office has had executive action on revisons.

We have now have a situation much like many other offices where we have a split between the roll over tickle my tummy mob who are happy with the same rosta and those that want more Saturdays out of the deal. The problem i keep getting is that we are being bound by RM insistence of planning to BSI 100. It is making it very difficult to have more Saturdays and keep the FT head count. And RM are using that against those of us that want less Saturdays. Cause the extra Saturdays mean the hours that would have been worked have to be distributed into the indoor work load and so come off the IWT total. Unless we break the 4hr delivery spec which many of us realise is phisically challenging.
Ive now got an official copy of Bob Gibsons advice and so i feel i will be using this now to draw a halt to the process unless they can come back and talk real terms instead of the BSI 100 twaddle.
