Had a days holiday cancelled whilst away

I had a pre booked holiday before starting for RM I wanted last Tuesday until today off. They gave me Mon-Fri as holiday, Saturday as my rotated day off and today as holiday.

Now when I got back last night I had my payslip and a note telling me what duty I am on and that my day off this week is today. I rang the HR lady as she put a # on the note and asked about it as on my holiday card today is marked as my holiday. She said because they are short staffed they have given me today as my day off in the week and they owe me one days holiday. Seems bang out of order they do this especially as I am away when I get the note telling me.

I know I am unlikely to get the day when I want it as well, will be a case of when it suits them. She also said on the note "there is overtime available Monday if you want it please call". Can't say I am to happy about it today.

I really dont see what the problem is? you got the days off you wanted so its not as if you missed any of your holiday and now you have 1 days holiday left that you wouldnt have had if you'd used today as a/l
You are moaning you wont get that day when you want it but if they'd given you today off as a/l you wouldnt have that day left to book at all.

I wanted today off for a reason, I got back late last night so thats why today was booked as holiday, I almost never got my pre booked holiday due to being told completely wrong information on the telephone and it has been booked for ages so they can't say they didn't know.

Why do I want a random day of at their choice? It's my holiday not theirs I can understand if its busy not getting it when I want it, in advance. But not to be told whilst I am away and to come back to it. I also had arrangements this week for my rotating day off to help a mate as I was expecting it now that's not going to happen. If they had told me before hand it wouldn't have been a problem I would have at least known but I was away for a week and it is clearly something they decided on whilst I was away and had no come back to.

You could still help your mate by doing both walk in one day, as long it is not too big and heavy. It is not ideal solution.

Oh I see so you have a rotating day off so you know what days off you have from week to week? Do you have a print out showing that today was a/l? if so then I dont think they can change your rest day just like that. Why not say to your manager that you had today as a/l and that your rest day this week is ???day and you've made plans for it so you're going to take that day off.

I wasn't going to help a mate in work I was going to help a mate outside of work on my day off. I have my annual leave card which shows today as booked holiday. This is why I rang up today to ask about it because the letter said "my day off is monday" but I already had today off anyway which had me confused.

So yes it appears that now for the rest of the week I am working and today was my rest day which is why I am annoyed.

They can't change your holidays to suit if you have them on the card already,they are taking the piss,see you rep.
