39 Hours ..... Backdated ???

Could someone help with a definitive answer ? Ive just phoned HR Services (wages) and been informed that our office changed to a 39 hour week in December 2010. But we`ve been made to work a 40 hour week, regardless. The manager has said we can change to 39 hours in the next week or so, but surely we`re entitled to back pay of nearly 30 hours .... 1 hour X 30 weeks !! is this the case ????

How would one go about finding out the horuage our office is supposed to be on?

Phone HR Dept (wages) and ask what hourly rate you`re on....either 40 hours or 39 hours. If it is 39 hours, they`ll give you the date it changed.
We`ve been asking the union for ages now, about this. Just after new year, a note appeared on our payslip informing us we had changed to 39 hours but when we asked the manager, he said, ignore that ... blah blah blah. So we`re going higher and we seem to be getting somewhere :-)

We've been told we will get the hours back as extra AL at some point. As far as I'm concerned, they can take as long as they like - I'd prefer the extra AL.

Personally i dont want A/L as its hard enough getting comp days and leave as it is. Plus, all they`ll do is lapse other duties to pay for it, thus, in theory, not costing them a penny.

Goodness back in 2000 most of the offices nationwide went on a 40 hour week from 41.5 hours 6 day week it took our office 4 years before we went onto a 40 hour week we never saw any back dated pay or extra a/l of the 1.5 hours owed so why get any now

Perhaps another read through the thread will bring enlightenment - their office has gone to a 39 hour week but no one told them. That means 2 things:

1. If they worked 40 hours every week then they are owed 1 hours overtime on each occurrence if their office has officially gone to 39 hour weeks.

2. Part timers get a 2.5% pay rise when FT go to 39 hours so that we all end up on the same pay rate. Therefore if a PT had worked 40 hours he would have been paid more than the FTimers.

So its not about getting back pay as soon as their office goes to 39 hours, its about going to 39 hours OFFICIALLY and then not getting the benefits or being told.

If i've read your post right,your office DID NOT get the sww,so if you still worked 41.5hrs then you would be owed nothing.
Question,why did you not go to 40hrs when everyone else did?

Ah, that explains my change in pay recently (30 hour PT).
