Aren't they asking the wrong people?
Shouldn't they be asking the sender,you know the one who would most likely have to refund the recipient when the packet "disappears"...the one who has the hassle of raising what would most likely be an unsuccessful claim against RM...you know the one who actually...pays us...the whatsisname....customer thingy.

We need to consider sending customer just as much as receiving customer. Having longer callers office opening hours would help. Then again that would put hours onto the budget or reduce savings and thats something RML at this moment in time are wishing to steer well clear off.

They are, it seems, planning to base this 'new policy' on an online survey of 512 people. 512 Of which 46% or 235 of computer literate people basiclly said it would be convenient. 235 Surveys of this nature are written to give the answer they want and are a waste of time. Oh, it was for Royal Mail!

Of course most people would prefer stuff to be left with a neighbour, it doesn't need a stupid survey to tell us that - especially when the alternatives are:

a) Try and telephone a number that is never answered
b) Try and collect from somewhere that is only open until lunchtime Mon-Fri, then go and stand in a massive queue on Saturday morning because most people work and they can't collect Mon-Fri either.
c) If you do manage to rearrange delivery it could be 5pm before your parcels turn up these days.

Let's say you were a self-employed window cleaner.

Would you keep visiting people's houses when they are out at work, and miss out on a lot of potential custom ? No, not if you wanted to stay in business.

The danger of points a) b) and c) is that not only are they true, they make a very powerful argument for making deliveries at a time of day when the recipient is most likely to be home, i.e. EVENING DELIVERIES

Yes, it was rejected by majority.

• 3 Thought evenings was a convenient solution
• 7 Though it was a good idea but wouldn't answer the door if there was something on the telly
