My first few days...

I had my induction on Monday and started delivering on Tuesday and today. Tuesday I met someone on their route and followed them round and today I started to learn how to get everything in street order before going out. I'm enjoying it a lot (even getting wet today), 90% of people at our office seem to use their own cars which I don't really mind, I think they try to arrange a van if you ask.

The only thing worrying me is that I'm off on Friday then on Saturday I'm on my own, so tomorrow is my last day to learn how to get everything prepared and in order. Do you think that if I wanted to go in on my day off on Friday just to see the prepping again they would be OK with that? I don't want to come over as a slow learner but at the same time dont want to stress about it either.

Go in tomorrow and write it all down, where to start from (i'm taking it that you are delivering the mail in the order of the frame from bottom left to top right?) where one bagful ends, where you pick up a new bag from, what parts (if any) are done back to back and where you pouch off.

I assume that you are thinking of going in on your day off (for good reasons) but no pay. Please don't. Just go in on Saturday and do the job as best you can. Please don't use your own car.

Please also ask for a bagging up sheet ; so that you know what to do.

I would say not to going in on your day off as it sets the wrong impression with Managers and posties.

Get your trainer to write down the bundle up order tommorrow so you know what your doing on sat. When your by yourself on sat take your time (esp on delivery) and remember that the manager does get extra budget allowed for learners like yourself. As for using your own car i would say NOT as you need to be 100% on insurance etc because if something goes wrong you will be out the door.

Yes tomorrow I'll write down the order and make sure I know exactly which to pick from the shelves. We work from top left to bottom right (I think), I'm pretty sure I have a door to door delivery on Saturday too. Hopefully I won't be roaming the streets too late in day! I'll sort the car business out too as the person I'm with said no one gets paid to use their own so it's not really worth the risk with insurance etc. as well.

I take it the managers are used to new people taking a while longer so if it takes me an hour extra for example I just mention it to the manager on Monday.

After 2 days I must say I'm enjoying it though - certainly beats sitting at a desk all day
