Not sure what your problem is,your contract has been extended,be thankful for that.
You haven't been here 6 months yet,when you are you will get a pay rise.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Don't think this a just a RM thing, every company does this. I worked briefly at M & S and only was only given short term contracts. I'll be surprised if your contracts not extended with xmas fast approaching after your contract expires.

I'm on my 3rd 3 month contract and they are taking on more staff so I enquired with our cwu rep about the possibility of being made permanent. He advised me that RM are offering temp contracts until 2013 ( in our office ). I received my pay rise after 6 months

I wouldn't worry about the pay rise - my 6 month contract extension letter said the same - but I note that I am getting aprox 35p per hour more now :dcfo

Thanks for the words of advice. I had a word with my manager today. The letter threw me a bit is all. Thought I was going to lose the only job I've had that I actually enjoy. Time to calm down and just get on with it for as long as it lasts and be thankful for even having a job the way the country is at the moment.
