I have worked for Royal Mail 13 years plus and still do not have a walk of my own and are a sub getting moved daily/ weekly. When moved onto a duty for a week my dom moves the day off to suit him, ie duty saturday off .. now changed to thursday, any bank holidays always Monday off... i know i get the day back but finding a date when they is a space to have the days holiday is another matter. The Dom spits his dummy out when things dont go his way and finds truth hard to tell. Anyone else have trouble? :vcfo

you should insist on a rotating day off ie Monday this week Tuesday next the dom should respect this and you get your share of Saturdays off.
Are you in the union?
When its a bank holiday Monday ?t Do they give you Monday off as your rest day? you are then owed a day normaly you would then have the tuesday off giving you a long weekend.

you are just a good employee that is why they shaft, they moved me off a duty, because they allowed an older person on it, even though the walks are supposed to be the same, which is crap.
just use up sickness if you are on a full time contract, unfortunately unless people leave and you can bribe who does the duties your situation wont change.

I'm in the same boat as a leave reserve, told its the nature of the job
I dont usually get to know my day off for the next week until fri/sat which is a ball ache,
any sats i know i'll want off in the next year i have to try and put lieu days in.
cannot remember last time i got a sat/mon off, if at all?
got our union rep involved and they came up with a plan of if it gets to 5 or 6 weeks since my last sat off i've to inform the dom and he'll try and sort 1 out....great cos thats what i've always had to do with little success!

In my experience anyway I find the local union help a lot and will always back posties if there is a genuine concern. Sympathise/Empathise with your views on the National side though.

I worked for RM for 18 months before I got a Saturday off and it took me 2 years and 10 months before I got my first long weekend. At one point I had 14 consecutive Tuesdays off.

In the end I had to lose it, big time, before I got a fixed rolling day off. Not proud of that, but then neither am I proud of the fact that management take advantage of people when they first join.

Regrettably, it would seem that you have to scream and shout before they take any notice of you. That's piss-poor management, in my book.

Ok, so it was a long time ago but as the above shows I haven’t forgotten it, it still rankles with me.

You think you're being flexible and trying to help the business out (hoping the DIM has half a brain and recognises you for being a "Good" postie), he hasn't got a clue thinks you're a mug and continues to take the piss until you lose it! We need to attract a better standard of Manager ,and I hate to say it but provide a better wage package to get them! What are they on £30 a week more than a Postie? What do you expect for that? The latest winner of The Apprentice? I don't think so!

To be fair - when the boss tried it on with a lad in my section - he and I kicked off and it was changed back. The sad thing about RM is if you want fairness you have to fight for it - an oxymoron definition if there is such a thing.
