Using trolleys frowned upon by management

My walkers part on my round on park and loop has 700 calls and my loops are too big to get it in one bag and as the mail is increasing have to use 2 bags per loop (one for packets and one for letters).
On my day off the floater that does my round is a runner and uses bags and finishes quicker and I get the manager moaning when I cut off most days saying "round too long" and his reply is why can the floater finish some days but you cant .
I have found the trolley adds about 10 minutes to a 45 minute loop and over 6 loops that over an hour extra.
You say this to the DOM and they are not interested and they said to me the other day "why do you you use the trolley if it makes you slower".
I said I thought they were mandatory plus for health and safety .
They cant stop you from using trolleys can they?

No they can't.

Also if the "runner" isn't using mandatory equipment then he should be, following the rules, conducted for failing to follow a reasonable instruction.

this seems to be happening all over but with different procedures.
managers tell you what you SHOULD do but they DON'T WANT YOU to do it that way as they know it can't/won't work.
all it is is arse covering.

we got park and loop in our office for over a 6 months now and the only way the dutys can complet is when the postman use bags. we used to use trolleys but no one completed.now managment b@h people to use the bags.

Trust in yourself and do what you do well and ask to be walk tested with a Rep and Manager if they are not happy. The other thing you could try is asking for more training with the puppy walker as you are "not meeting managers expectations" and get the puppy walker to write a report (keep a copy) saying you are doing the job to RM specs with start and finish times achieved and a recommendation that other OPGs that do your walk need a refresher course because they must be breaking Royal Mail, mail integrity and H&S policy to do the walk any faster. (Only do that if the puppy walker in your office is OK and not an RM flunky out for the extra pay and brownie points.)

what if you have an accident on delivery whilst not using the trolley, is your manager gonna stand up and say he told you not to use it

Has anyone at CWU HQ actually read the guidelines for the use of the LWT's.

Was given a copy the other day from lino and it says on it not to use them in the winter, so how are we to do the park and loop then?

Truth is it's harder to convince OPG's to use a trolley than Management. If the runner used a trolley there would be no argument. It comes down to the fact your workmates are not following correct procedure, for plenty of reasons. early finishes, pride (I'm not pulling one of those I'll look stupid) and just the inability to change/ set in their ways. They would rather lapse that take a trolley. Maybe you should look at those who's selfish attitudes spoil it for you, as you know your DOM is paid to make you work harder. They are doing it for free.......

Now the bad news could hardly walk when i got up this morning evidently i've now got plantar fasciitis or tendnitis in my foot due too walking long distances on my 1100 house van share duty thankyou once again to all at RM great idea department.

You've got a little foot pain from changing the way you are walking, that's to be expected from your first few days. Take some ibuprofen in the morning,it should help until your feet warm up a little, and when you get home place your feet in ice and rest up. If you find it difficult to adjust after a few weeks then consider an insert in your footwear.

You are within your rights to request for your walk to be tested at any time. They are supposed to arrange that for you if you request it, they also have an obligation and so do you to make sure it's done properly when tested to give a true reflection. Use trolley's etc, don't use keys to let yourself into flats if you have any unless everyone who is going to cover your walk has access to them.

In the mean time tell your DOM you're not interested in what the other bloke does because he doesn't do the job to royal mail standards but if he wants to sign a disclaimer saying if you have an accident that you are covered by not using a trolley then you will be happy to not use one. Never in a million years will he sign it.

One of our SPDO guys got sacked for not using a trolley as it was too slow for him..WTF!!!

First couple weeks after we got p&l i heard our dom was out checking that people were using the trolleys.

Since then i think he's realised its only working because people aren't using trolleys and he turns a blind eye i guess.
