4 day week duty

I've been given a 4 day Working week with 2 days off on a 27 hour contract.
Any ideas why I will not be working 5 days? It just doesn't make sense to me.
Why would I be given an extra day off?

So they have you working on the busiest days Weds to Sat to give the full timers there saturdays off!
Stinks tell them it will not work for you and seek advice from your Rep

depends - could it be because you've been assigned a particular walk that is so physically demanding that five days a week on it would push even the fittest of fit folk into a state of exhaustion after a very short time?

Are your two days off a week set days together, are they progressive, as in, week one you're off Monday/Tuesday, week two Wednesday/Thursday, week three Friday/Saturday, repeat pattern (every three weeks - a five day weekend),

or are they as above - you are in Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat and off Mon, Tue every week.

we'd need more information before being able to say really why you aren't working over five days.

I think I have been given the duty because I know 3 out of 4 of the walks.

My days of this week are Today and tomorrow. And I'm pretty sure I remember the revision planner saying something like the above quote.

if you are on a 27hr contract and work 5 days/week you work 5hr 24min/day
If you are on a 27hr contract and work 4 days/week you work 6hr 45min/day. (You'll have to check the maths)

On a 4 day week you will be expected to do more than on a 5 day week.
This may mean more prep/IPS or it may be due to longer delivery spans in your unit.
Someone should be able to give you answers to your questions.

if you are on a day off cover duty then perhaps your hours are aligned each day to the duty you are covering .i.e. Monday you cover a 7 hour duty same Tuesday , Wednesday and Thursday you could cover a 6 hour duty . That is one way it could work.

I would love to do that duty, I should keep quiet and get on with it, unless it affects childcare etc etc etc

If it doesn't it's a great duty, think about it, the week you have friday/saturday off, the following week you have monday/tuesday, that's a 5 day weekend!

Who wouldn't want that?

On Monday I started at 7:14 and other three days I'm suppose to start at 10:00. but I actually make my hours up
By coming in at 7:15 each day.

I would love that duty. I'm a 30 hour contract. You think I should say to my DOM that I'd be willing to go down to 27 and do this?

I'm not to sure. I suppose it would depend if your office is set out to have the duty.
I actually want full time though. So I'm not really that happy having it. I think I've been given it because
2 of the rounds On the duty are on an estate, there both like a maze. Plus, no one knows the rounds so no one will go on there.

Most of our part-timers are on a 3 day week on a 4 week rotating day off so every 4 weeks they are off from friday until the following thursday.

Ditto. But it does mean that they are off every Tuesday, which also means that they miss out on the one day of the week where the workload is actually manageable without cut offs.

I've been working this duty for most of the summer ... Mon and Tues off and getting my 30 hours in between Weds - Sat ... 10 - 6pm Weds, Thurs, Fri ... 7.30 - 1.30 Sat ... Combination of Walks, Packets and Collections ... Whatever is required on the day.

Expecting to go back to 5 days when volumes pick up again September'ish.

Do I care that I don't know what I'm doing before I walk through the door in the morning ? ... No ... A working day is a working day and I take the view they can ask me to do anything they like if they're paying my wages ... To be honest I enjoy the variety and wouldn't like to do the same walk day in day out.

Do I enjoy Sun, Mon, Tues off ? ... You bet ... Finish at 1.30 on a Sat and not back again (in theory) until 10am on a Weds ... Also gives options for overtime on Mon and Tues if available and you're happy to do it.

Many people too quick to moan on here ... yes, it can be tough physically but as long as you keep yourself reasonably fit there are far worse places to work out there ... having said that, some of the Managers that people have to contend with on here sound like a nightmare and thinking myself lucky that mine seem OK in comparison.

we had them a while back.

days off-

week1, weds & thurs.

week2, fri & sat.

week3, mon & tues.

the 5 day weekend every 3 weeks sold it for me, though the duties were monsters.
went ok for a few months but it catches up with you eventually and once we started cutting off due to the duties not being preped the DOM put a stop to it.

four day week dutys are quite cushy, as said, five day weekend every three weeks is a bonus. However, you have to allow for the fact that if it's because the duty to which you are allocated is a complete b'stard, you will need those two days off a week to recover and revive your legs.

Also, it tends to make holidays more interesting - because if your non working day falls on a bank holiday, you'd get that as lieu day wouldn't you, so you'd think you've used say 5 days annual leave, but they owe you one back, so you don't use as many and can end up being asked to take nearly an entire month off (not that I speak from experience mind

)
