yes u an order shoes every six months though tell ur maanager after 5 months cuz it takes ages. u r allowed 2 shoes a year

+1 a good pair of boots or walking shoes will help your poor feet loads the first couple of weeks. I wouldnt expect uniform very quickly so just wear something comfortable but not anything too decent as your clothes can get ruined. Personally would avoid jeans as they can be hot in the summer and heavy if it rains loads.

Your manager and co-workers won't take a blind bit of notice what you wear, so just wear something comfortable and casual.

I started this year myself and had no uniform other than a high-viz vest for a while, and that's not unusual.

I wouldn't recommend wearing anything denim, it gets hot even when it's cold out and worse when it's wet. I just had canvas knee-length shorts (2 pairs, khaki and grey) and whatever T shirt that's handy without any logos. I wore out my old hiking boots within the first few weeks so I just got some cheapo £12 walking boots from a farming supplies store - I reckoned no point in splashing out £70 plus on posh boots which are going to be trashed so fast!

Even on cold days I still just had shorts & T shirt, but I kept a bundled-up rainproof jacket handy (again, just a thin thing which can easily stuff into a pocket if it's not needed) as well as a plain baseball cap to keep the torrential rain out of my face.

Also, 2 pairs of thin cotton socks every day, just the cheapest, thinnest ones I could find in the discount store, bought in bulk. I wouldn't bother with those fancy hiking socks, but wearing 2 pairs of socks at a time helps prevent blisters on your feet - in my youth I happily went up mountains with that tip!

PS I'd recommend getting some Deep Heat - helps with the aching calf muscles at the end of the day.

I also wear two pairs of socks it helps prevent the excessive hardening of skin on your heels.

This is my second time at RM and I can't remember my calfs hurting this much so deep heat and ibruprofen are a must. I wore some cheap comfy plain black air max trainers ( found some for £20 ) and some cheap combat trousers to store p739 and spare pens, keys etc. Don't wear anything decent because it'll get ruined in no time
