More Lapsing At Stockport DO

A quick 10 minute meeting this morning, where 4 sectors were informed 1 in 5 duties were to be lapsed for the upcoming 6 weeks, cos volumes were predicted to fall by 20% !!! 6 weeks ??? is this similar to the `summer only` lapsing, that ended up being permanent ???? Still no 39 hour week tho. What a wonderful union we have !!!

The "union" can only fight with the weapons you give them, i bet your rep if you have one is tearing his or hers hair out with people coming in early and working through breaks, same people moaning about the union while doing everything to destroy it!

i have had enough of the blame game,members are being shafted to accomodate managers targets..do not for a minute believe that the stockport area rep /div rep were not aware of the changesa in advance..these would have been aired at area meetings.the unit rep would as would the members only become aware when there dom given the go ahead from the adr cascaded the info..no protest from the div rep/ area rep... no phone call from them to unit rep..WHY??????. THEY DONT WANT STRIKES OR GRIEVE.union survival requires adherence...rock the boat.. sanctions applied.the cwu will survive ...royal mail will insure that..it suits em

Ofcourse the changes would be made aware the the Rep/ADR, no one is disputing that, my point was the members making Royal mails life easy as to more work be absorbed due to our members coming into work early and giving up breaks, the same idiots bleet that the union is letting them down, you really could not make it up, stop moaning and give your local union the tools to fight for what you want for gods sake!

What if the lapsing cannot be done inside contract hours? I've read on here about managers insisting that the lapsed duty is delivered first, even if the postie thinks this will not leave enough time to complete their own duty, but then I've also read about posties doing their own duty and then showing there is no time left for lapsing.

Can the postie insist on completeing their own duty and then taking out enough lapsing to fill the rest of their contract hours, or should the postie deliver the lapsing and then follow cut-off procedure on their own duty?

If the manager insists you deliver the lapsing first, even after you have informed him (with a witness) that this will leave you unable to complete your own walk, then that is what you do. It is only going to create more of a headache for the manager since they will have cut-offs all over the place rather than just having parts of the lapsed walks left behind. It's not your problem and they are only making it more difficult for themselves.

entirely up to management.

so long as they are aware that your workload "may" take you beyond your contracted hours it is in their hands.

just dont leave the DO until you have an answer, be it-

book OT,
leave mail in your frame,
leave the lapsing or
return and surplus mail to the DO at your finishing time.

the important thing is that your DOM has to make the decision, that is why his job title contains "manager".

dont finish early though FFS.

The only way this is going to stop is when everyone refuses to take it! Walk slower, take breaks and leave your car at the DO. The days of finishing early are over!

It's the same old thing,
"it's only for 6 weeks boys and girls, you all know there is less mail during summer",

then surprise, surprise, when the 6 weeks is over, it has to continue,
this 6 weeks bollocks is their way of getting u to do more graft,
the ONLY way to stop it is to do the job as it is meant to be done and to not go past your due finish time.

We've gone through all of the changes, onto vanshare etc, with our duty times "filled" and the w*****s have still got us lapsing.

No-one seems to want to fight though, no-one will take their 20mins before they leave the office and as much as I want to it's futile doing it (just the two of us).
