CWU & The Green Party ?

Sorry if its already been done but just reading the letters page in the Voice
A collegue was having a go about CWU supporting Liebour who did fecking zilch in return(insert Peter Mandleson smilie here).
I couldnt agree with him more
They didnt give us a kick of the ball from the off..... DSA

Why not give the political levy to the Green Party....?
You Know...A Party that actually opposes privatisation...
Or am i wrong, am i in some parallel universe where we give money to a party that wants to do something we dont want them too.....Bizzare!!!!!!

Is it possible to donate MY money to the party i want it to go to? or is just a case of opting out, if so how would i go about it...

I think the idea is they back a party that may actually get into a position to do something. Don't get me wrong I like the Green party and I'm all for hugging trees and all that but seriously, they are never going to run the country or be in a position to change anything are they?

Of course Labour doesn't do anything to help even when they are in a position too.... perhaps we should just donate all the money to the Cats home or something similar!

If you like/support the Green Party then join, that's what I did in 2008. That said I do not want formal affiliation or donations for the fun of it. I want the levy to be spent entirely on political campaigning not on political parties. Problem with Labour is wont find all trade unions in 100% agreement on 100% of the issues so Labour could do something one union likes but another dose not. Also Labour is not simply made up of affiliated unions, there are other groups affiliated to Labour and then there is the rank and file membership all of whom have a say in Labour policy. To expect Labour do exactly what the unions want is nonsense. Labours link is to keep it a direct link to the ordinary working people of this country or to be more precise the views of the unions leadership. When was the last time the CWU consulted its mbrs on all the issues of the day to determine what CWU policy should be?

Labour should speak to the union mbrs and bypass the union leadership.

and perhaps someone should attempt some reasearch into what the Green Party is for. They are not a one issue party and they appear to have more "socialist" leanings than Labour do at the moment.

Recycle you say. Fine, no problem. Just how long is that going to take to implement across the whole of RM customers. What happens in the meantime when the do-gooders decide to put a ban on non recycled goods?

Too right....even the silly Green Brighton MP woman couldn't wait to put here foot in her mouth; when asked what should be done about the ever-rising price of petrol with the attendant hardship for the poorer sections of society, her only response was "it's actually not high enough".

I don't agree with them on the fuel issue, though I do agree its not a renewable energy source so we will run out of it sometime and because of that the price will go up. Perhaps the price going up will force people and companies to come up with a workable alternative.

"it's actually not high enough" - very true.
When I started work forty years ago petrol and diesel was much dearer in real terms than they are today and you didn't get supermarkets transporting food half way across the country from producer to processor then again to packager then again to national distribution depot then to the store.

Green party would rebalance taxes so whilst some would rise others would drop.

Green party would like a sustainable viable public transport system. That is essential for reducing car usage.

Policies in political parties are not set in stone, they are in constant state of flux. Core values are pretty much set in stone and its a case applying those values to the issues of the day.

I ran a ballot for eastern region green party last year and the majority of votes came via post and all came in reused envelopes. Use a PC/email and you use electric and if your drawing it from the national grid then your getting polluting electric as well as non polluting as all energy producers feed into the national grid.

Afterwards we did a review and post came out tops over electronic voting via email.
