hi everyone found out today.

Im going for for my induction on tuesday and to the grind at the depot on wedensday looking forward to it.
thanks for all the help on here about how long to wait for checks being done and stuff but got the nod today so im over the moon.
2 years on the dole was a nightmare so roll on a little cash at last.

You seem really pleased to have got this job. Which is nice.

I think a bit of good advice for a newbie would be to just work at your own pace and don't let anyone rush you.

I went straight from the dole to this job too.

Working for RM isn;t that bad, its about time we gave new starts some tips on how to deal with managers????

Aye the moneys crap bet ya was getting more on dole with ya rent & that.

to be honest i was only getting dole money mate 65 a week but id rather be working than sat on me arse.
like alot of useless people in the country ive been a time served joiner since i left school 16 year ago
but because of the climate work has been very quite to get a job in this country at the minute is a bit of
luck it dont matter what you get a week at least im not bumming around.

I've been on the dole and I've worked for Royal Mail - the latter is the better option by quite some distance. Worst comes to the worst, I've got money to fall back on now, and dreams to act upon when the time is right. Life on the dole is a dreamless realm of constant despair. The worst of the worst look down on you, and the best of the best know you as a statistic. If anyone thinks that's a life better than the one they're living, good luck to them. Hand your notice in and enjoy it.

All the best mate, you'll love it. Best job I've ever had, ignore those who talk negative, some people are stuck in the 80's and don't realise how good they have it and the job security they have enjoyed. I too was on jobseekers before this and probably will be again soon with these rolling temporary contracts, funny how I'd love a permanant contract yet most on one constantly talk about wanting to quit. Have fun!

Agree with Danieljp, and here, no everyone's contract's are extended. Months ago when worried about my contract ending and talking to some lady in her 60s who's been with RM for maybe 30 years, she said she had never seen a contract not extended. Ofcourse area's vary.
I joined in Nov on 25hrs for 3months.
Then in Feb it got extended to another 3months.
May it got bumped upto permanent.
July got asked to go full time.

Ofcourse during the 6months+ of 25hrs there was more than enough opportunity to do more hours.

Also do piss easy collections every night which consist of driving around the countryside for a couple of hours, but getting paid for 3 and am thus doing approx 55hour weeks. I love my job and the office is very friendly, I do feel when reading these forums that my office is some random bizarro world, in a parallel dimension to the rest.
