Am I going to get SACKED?

Hi I'm new to this forum and found it pretty helpful so far

Anyway, I'm on stage 2 at the moment. Keep getting tonsillitis, which is a killer and just cannot do the job with this illness. I went sick on Wednesday.

I cant remember when the stage 2 got issued and if I've had any days off since. Wish I kept my own record now! I know I had half a day off not so long back. But when I rung the manager to say I'm not well, I asked if going home half day would effect my sick record and they said no. But this may have been over 6 months ago. Cant remember

But now the sh***s hit the fan, i'm bricking it that I may trigger stage 3 and lose my job. They've done it with 2 people in my office in the last year. But they were ALWAYS on the sick

Also I rang my union rep to ask if he could tell me my sick record for the last 6 months. He said no and told me to ring HR. HR said no, and said I need to ring my manager. I rang and she basically questioned why I was asking for it and slightly accused me of planning sick days

If the cause of your absences is the same - tonsilitis, then have they offered to refer you to ATOS?
Has your doctor suggested having the tonsils removed?

If there is an underlying health problem, this should be investigated first.
A rep might be able to confirm or deny this but I thought if the cause of the absence was ongoing, it shouldn't automatically trigger another stage warning.
You need to, and they need to help you, deal with the issue first.

That's the whole point of the attendance procedure to help you and look at what's happening to you, ATOS need to be involved they will quickly get on your side if there is something wrong which is affecting your ability to work. Sadly managers are too eager to just issue stage warnings atm. However if you have been off sick for the same thing constantly and it's triggered your stages all the way up to a stage 3 and you can medically prove it (you wasn't telling porkie to watch the football) and god forbid they sacked you they would get eaten alive in court I believe for unfair dismissal.

Also when I rung the manager and told her I'm on a stage 2. She immediately said I'd be put on stage 3 due to my absence. She does have a big history of just making her own stuff up!

Well, ask her to put that disgraceful comment in writing then put a grievance in.....

Personally, I would stick a grievance now because of what she said (even though she will deny it ) . Inform her superior in the grievance and point out, there is no way she can decide or give your Stage 3 due too her prejudice....

She can't put you on a stage 3 unless a stage 3 has been triggered.and to trigger it you would need to incur 2 absences or 10 days in any 6 month period during the 12 months from the date of the 2nd stage.

I dont think I have had 2 absences in the last 6 months. I really cant remember but I dont think I have. The only absence I had, was going home 4.5 hours into my shift. But before I rang up to tell them I'm going home, I asked the manager if it would effect my sick record at all and she said NO

In all honesty I would forget about this and worry about sorting out the ongoing tonsilitis.

She definitely said you will trigger stage 3. But anyway I'm not gonna pursue that. She is well known for saying things which she just makes up. For example I used to be a reserve so I would go to different sub offices each day. I havent done my van test and one day she put me on a van duty. I said to her I havent done my test and she said 'its fine for today Ive sorted that' . So I rang the union who said the obvious. That I wont be doing the van duty.

Anyway I'll have to see what happens when I have my part to work interview

A part-day absence will not count for the procedure as long as your attendance was at least an hour and you haven't been making a habit of it and been warned that any future part-day absences may count.

That was the 1st time I'd ever had a part absence and nothing about part absences has ever been mentioned

The reason I'm on stage 2 is due to me breaking my hand which had me off for a couple of month, then had to have operation at a later date which I had to have a couple of month off again. And the tonsillitis. Bit crap how it works I suppose but nothing can be done

I've got a stage 3 looming in the next couple of weeks, when I had my stage 2 the DOM said the paper work from the stage 1 had been "lost" and he couldn't find it, I don't remember having a stage 1 done, I haven't had a back to work interview for the illness that triggered the stage 3 either, have RM followed the correct procedure, and could it get thrown out ?.

Note:
As far as I know stages are triggered automatically by HR from info supplied to them by local management.
