What to do with letter/parcel that has address not on walk

Hi

I had a parcel in my bag today that had an address that was not on my walk but spelt almost the same in very small letters. This was missed by the person who sorted the parcel and initially by me when I sorted the parcels. I only noticed this when I was about to deliver it and it was miles away from where I was. What is the official thing that you do in this situation?

Endorse it as "missort".
Date it and initial it and take it back to the office.
If the correct address is in your office, make sure it goes to the right walk.
If it isn't in your office, highlight where it should go so it gets to the right place.

If it was small enough I'd just be popping it into a postbox somewhere. I wouldn't recommend this for more than the odd item though!

I know - but I've known posties be threatened with willful delay for doing the honest thing and bringing it back. Though of course the manager adds that if they deliver it on their way home (regardless of where home actually is) he'll turn a blind eye to it. Personally, I'd rather do the discreet thing than waste time listening to and arguing a managers bluff.

That's what I'd theoretically do - Not what I'd recommend others do however.

Not if correctly endorsed and with justifiable reason. In this case I would Post back into the system through a pouching off bag or Post Office. I would endorse:

If you took it back to the office it'd be out on delivery again the next day. Popped back in the system with cancelled stamps there's a chance it'll be treated as 2nd class or surcharge taking 2-3 days.

Correct procedure is mark it 'missort' and either put into the right packet bag when you get back tot he office or place on the missort frame if delivered from a different office, answer the question people!!!
