What is the consequence for a postie putting a full tank of petrol into a Royal Mail diesel van (no it was not me )

Depends on whether they're FT or not

As long as it hasn't been driven then all that happens is the workshop will drain the tank and put diesel in and everything should be fine, if the engine has been run the it usually mean rebuilding the engine seals which is more expensive and they don't like that.

It's happened a few times in my office but nobody has ever been sacked over it but then that was a few years ago

wife put unleaded in our diesel about 2 years ago, it ran for half a mile and stopped.

AA refused to recover it unless it was going to a garage or specialist.

went down with a mate, siphoned the fuel out, towed it to asda and filled it.

started up and ran a bit lumpy for a min or two then it was fine.

whole process took less than an hour.

as far as RM vehicles go, well the future is as bleak as mangement make it

Picking son up from University a few years ago, put unleaded into a Diesel Ford Focus. Got all the way from Loughborough to Coventry before it gave up the ghost. Got towed into garage in Leamington and took two hours to bleed the system and get it restarted. Never again,always check the colour on the pump nozzle.

When you try and pay the fuel card should be rejected because they are diesel only so then you just leave the van at the petrol station and they come and siphon it out. It happened to a guy in my office a few months ago, all that happened was we took the piss out of him for about two weeks :) I always use pay at pump so it will only let me fill with diesel anyway.

The lad (8 yrs service) is part time and worried sick, he has been told he will be interviewed after the van has been fixed and NO it is not me thankfully as I am 21 service and full time which is a good job really as R.M are targeting full timers

This is a legitimate mistake. No-one is suggesting he deliberately filled the van with petrol to damage it are they?

It was his first day as driver on P+L, the brand new van only had about 100 miles on it

yes we do all make mistakes but it is only managers who are not penalised for them.postmen/women are targets.
