seeking work with the royal mail but CRB may go against me

Hi all
I have been contacted about the potential of an interview as a postie.
However...

I know that I will be going through a CRB check and am worried my last job will go against me. I was a teacher at a sixth form college and trained actor (have been for the past 20+ years) and had never been disciplined throughout my entire working life. Then in March-April this year I was suspended twice for allegations made by some students which the college then took as being acts of gross misconduct! I knew (still know) these allegations were lies but the college stood firm and HR advised it would be better for me to consider resignation rather than face potential dismissal. I therefore resigned. This now, I am sure, would go onto my CRB and therefore stop me from being a postie!

Are there any of you out there who could help me on this please? Would this now mean the RM wouldnt take me on?

How can allegations count as a criminal offence ? If you have not been convicted of any crime you cannot have a criminal record.
Or am I missing something here ?
Nor I presume have you been cautioned or reprimanded ?

I just wasnt sure that as I resigned (the college have apparently stated that their outcome will look as dismissal on CRB) because of allegations then it could be classed as a criminal offence. Pain in the backside to be honest mate

For a former lecturer you seem very mis-informed. The Royal Mail CRB check is a standard disclosure. You resigning has nothing to do with criminal offences. It will only check your criminal record, if you have one...

Really don't think RM are that careful these days. Many years ago they may have liked all employees to be squeaky clean. I very much doubt they even bother with the checks now so keep quiet about it and you shouldn't have any trouble!

I have worked with a number of ex-teachers turned postie , and all were happy to get away from the stresses of their previous occupation.

With regards to your previous employer I would take legal advice as to your position particularly regarding references etc .

Unless you were involved with the police i doubt it will affect your application

As has been said ! The only problem you face will be with refrences. Unless you have a criminal record for some thing

Who would be a teacher these days ? the slightest thing and your're fcuked, there Students don't realise the implication of their petty actions.

Personally I would have fought it and walk away with compo, if as you say you know these allegation are false.

Although not a perfect job at the moment your going to find a Postmans job about 1000% less mentally stressful. The physical side is another story though but we all have to walk through the pain barrier.

to be honest it ended up being that I was in the job for the money. dead right about the students. some of em are great but it takes one to make something up and the college are against you straight away! Apparently it goes down as that but they decided it would have been dismissal so it'll either be resignation or dismissal on the CRB! Believe me it's all wrong now in teaching, although i suppose some still love it and for some it is still a mint career (pension aside!). My wife is expecting our first baby in the next 2 weeks. my argument was always to HR and the college that why on god's earth would I even think to do these alleged 'gross misconduct' acts when the baby is coming into the world? would they listen? no! so as you can imagine i was peed off, am now facing up to the fact my teaching career could be buggered and all cos of some students who make things up to get noticed by their mates!!!!

So ive applied for a postie job and was told it would involve a crb. hopefully the crb check will go okay and wont be held against me...

Seriously you don't have anything to worry about, if its not recorded, no dramas, no conviction or caution etc, you will be getting standard CRB disclosure, not enhanced CRB which is more for working with children and vulnerable adults, TBH I don't see the relevance of CRB to a Postie job, security clearance is more important as you are covered by the Official Secrets Act, I had to sign one when I joined up, I don't know if they still do now.

No don't think so, I don't recall signing it when I started ten years ago although I have lost a lot of brain cells since then?
