OOOOPS...I'm sure I'm not the only one...

Today, I think I posted a special 1pm delivery through the door by mistake instead of getting a signature. God knows how or why but it was a bit of a crazy morning and I guess I just lost concentration. I'm new only been there a month or so, so am abit worried. Only noticed when I got back to the office that one hadnt been signed and i hadnt P739'd it either. I checked and double checked all my bags and also in the van. Nothing there. So i'm guessing its either been posted or its been lost on route on my duty somewhere.

I told the lady who takes all the parcels back in that I think I posted it. She just said OK and marked on my sheet 'POSTED', and said we'll sort it Monday. I was abit late back then normal and no manager was around. Also its not even my main office I was just covering someone at another office so the whole duty was pretty much new to me.

I'm guessing I'm not the only one who has posted a special by mistake in the history of the royal mail. Has anyone done this before? I don't wanna be sacked or anything. Just bit worried. Hoepfully it will be ok.

I've done that aswell. Once. Told them when I got back, they marked it as posted and heard nothing else. That was over 18 months ago. You should be ok as long as it WAS posted and the customer doesn't complain.

well...I'm guessing it was...either that or it got lost on route...i'm trying hard to think but my brain isnt helping lol...pretty sure it was posted...but u know the element of doubt creeps in...

You made a genuine mistake and the appropriate people, of those available, were informed. Common sense ought to decree that you will be spoken to softly and advised to pay better attention next time. Don't expect common sense though. There are guys in my office who post recordeds & specials and sign for them themselves, which is dishonest, and arguably fraudulent. They get away with it because they're never found out.

I have never lost a Special - and i am not boasting. What I have done is get a plastic grocery bag and put ALL the specials in it, then place it into the front section of my pouch.

This helps for a few reasons.

1. Keeps them seperate and less likely to posted by mistake.
2. Keeps them waterproofed even in heavy rain.
3. Allows you to check you still have them every time you open the pouch.
4. If you make sure you secure the catch it keeps them safe.

Just before I go on delivery I make a list on a yellow tab that comes with the sequenced stuff and put it into the small pastic pocket on the outside on the signature card holder. (12 HS, 34 TG etc) just so I dont forget where I have one for.

However, as you are a new starter I would only expect a slap on the wrist by your trainer or manager and nothing else.

thanks for the advice. i do tend to keep them together but for some reason this one got messed up along the way. i'm trying hard to remember what happened but its literally impossible. im hoping it didnt fall out or something but then even if i did post it its my word against the customers. no signature means i lose basically. dam it! stupid me. just dont wanna lose my job over a genuine mistake.

I have to admit i keep mine in two trays in the back of the van and every time i get out i go through them.
I also keep a list of addresses and check them off as i deliver them.
I have never lost one but i have left one behind in the office before and almost dismantled the van trying to find it and i have made the mistake of shoving a P739 special in the glove box and forgetting about it for 3 days.

Really I have always taken out specials, saying that the drivers at our place are a bunch of lazy stewards.

i'll admit to having done that... it happened during my few solo days...
at the time i just slotted the specials (that were letter size) in the frame infront of that houses mail, so i couldnt miss it... i know the special was for a house in my first bag.

with retrospect i realised that i must have put a missort for the same house infront of it without realising it...
i was a fecking state at the end of my walk worrying i would get sacked on the spot... i checked my pouch , i went back round all the pouch drop boxes incase i had taken it out of my pouch and left it there by accident, checked the van, even rushed back to the DO and checked incase i had somehow left it in or on the frame....

i went into the office the next morning and told the DOM and the PHG... and was told to relax... wait a few days and see if there was a complaint... and they would deal with me/the situation if there was a complaint.

thankfully there wasnt..
