petty rules enforced by royal mail

Hi all,i have only just joined royal mail and this is my first topic on here,but i felt i needed to get something of my chest.since i have arrived i cant believe all the petty rules royal mail try to enforce,do this,dont do that,and it has all culmanated in me being taken into the office for wearing a baseball cap with the logo E.D.L on it,as far as im aware it is not a banned political org,the lads in the office wear caps with nike and NY and one even has FCUK on his so why all the fuss,all the time im out of the office i will still be wearing it.

one lad in our office was wearing ,fed ex, underpants. the dom only discovered this when the lad went in his office to ask for overtime/lieu day

I wear all-sorts into work in a morning; caps, scarves, bandanas, football shirts, but at the time I start work I am changed and only wear RM uniform. That is what is supplied, that is what you should wear. Do you think that work should be a statement of your individuality? Either side of work, where what you want. In work, wear what is supplied. If nothing is supplied then ask for further guidance.

I agree that if its not part of the uniform then you shouldn't wear it, but that should apply to everyone, including those NY, Nike and FCUK'ers.

Problem is that NY FCUK, coke etc are brands - Political themes such as EDL, NF, Labour, UAF, Conservatives are Political Parties or movements could fall under the "disrepute" rule as RM are meant to above politics and in the end when we are wearing unfiorm we are representing them. It could be argued that if RM allow wearing of any "political" clothing they may be seen as endorsing the message of that particular group and that would be very dodgy ground.

Honestly you thought it would be ok to wear a hat from a organisation that is seen to be anti islamic? Iam not trying to paint anyone as a racist or argue for or against any of the beliefs of you or this organisation. But i would think that surely common sense should be used in the work place and things that could be deemed offensive shouldnt be worn!

As you can see from the posts you've had so far, the rule you thought was petty isn't. Not only is it not the supplied uniform, it carries an unwanted political message for the company and displaying it can also put you in danger as a result.

I also cannot see any defence for you in a hearing if you get caught doing it again.

We're a scruffy lot,if i run a business and my workers wore what some of our guys wore i'd stamp it out big time.
It is unbelievable what s**t they wear at my office.

I see a lot of UPS round my way and all they wear is the official uniform,including caps,despite the colour ( ) they look smart,and are a good advert for 'their' business.

Obviously we've more pressing matters with the business but come on ffs,smarten up you lot.

The company image isnt just the fault of the workers though in my opinion. In my DO it is a constant struggle to get new uniform. The amount of pt staff walking around in their normal clothes is ridiculous and the linos dont seem to really be interested in sorting it out!
