Moving Forward Annual Conference Emergency Motion E3 – Members Letter

All Postal Branches will be aware that the above mentioned motion is the Union’s key policy for addressing the recent actions of the Royal Mail Group and the major developments taking place across the postal industry.

Please find attached an advanced copy of a communication that is being sent to CWU member’s home addresses. This communication explains the terms of the conference policy in the context of all the major issues we are currently dealing with.

Additionally, the Postal Executive has also agreed a number of actions that will enable us to move the terms of the motion forward.

Following some initial discussions we can also advise that the Senior Leadership Teams of the CWU and Royal Mail will meet next week to discuss the legitimate concerns of both parties and try to agree a way forward. This follows a meeting that took place earlier this week with the Government Shareholder Executive to also agree a process for future engagement on all relevant issues contained within the motion.

All Branches should ensure that we give maximum publicity to the member’s letter and take the opportunity to convey the Union’s message through meetings in the workplace.

We would also ask that you encourage members to sign up for regular updates by joining our email contact list. With the assistance of Branches, we want to build direct contact with every workplace and we are looking at a range of new initiatives to engage members and improve two way communications.

Latest News: Colleagueshare
Following the company’s revaluation of Colleagueshare on the basis on a new business plan and its announcement that the scheme would not pay out in 2011 or 2012, the union attended a number of meetings where the company attempted to explain the valuation. The union does not accept the company’s position. Royal Mail has since come back and suggested that further changes to the business plan may yet affect the valuation in 2012 but confirmed that there is little prospect of Colleagueshares reaching anything like their previous value. Colleagueshare is on the agenda in our forthcoming national talks. The CWU wants either the full anticipated payments restored or to negotiate other benefits for our members of equal value.

Latest News: London Mail centre Dispute
Following a yes vote for industrial action a comprehensive agreement was reached, which strengthened job security and included a guarantee of no compusory redundancies. In our forthcoming negotiations the union intends to build on this settlement in a way that benefits all future mail centre reviews.

Latest News: World Class Mail
In response to management’s recent actions and their apparent desire to now go it alone on World Class Mail – outside of existing national agreements – the union has suspended co-operation with any further role-out of the World Class Mail programme to new sites. WCM will now feature in our forthcoming discussions with the company. Pending the outcome of these discussions it is important that members support the union’s stance.

Latest News: Pensions
CWU members recently received a letter from the Chair of the Pension Trustees. The union’s view is that pensions issues are far more complex and wide ranging and we are engaged in ongoing discussions with Royal Mail and Government. In due course, CWU members will receive a comprehensive communication that explains the full range of pensions issues, how they are likely to impact on you, and the approach being taken by the union to secure our members’ pension entitlements.

Latest News: Membership Consultation Exercise
As part of a revamp of our whole approach to communications, in the coming weeks and months, we are undertaking a membership consultation through a range of new initiatives. To start this off you may soon be contacted over the telephone for your opinions on key issues.

so the cwu does not accept royal mail postion with c/s, cwu we could have told you this months ago, we all know there is a big big fraud going on within royal mail. surley to god if our own union dont belive them, and us the postal workers, dont belive them, instead of talking to them, lets have this massive consultation weve all heard about. or even better put it to the work force, let us decide, on what happens next. royal mail are not keeping to agreements, this is going on all over the country. think this union should now stand up and be counted,or let the work force have there say now before its too late

and what about the things that wasnt agreed in the 2010 , p&l with walk lapsing , banking of hours , none payment of o/t , more bullying and harassment from doms. come on big dave and your motley crew support all your members not just the chosen few. grow some b**ls and put a stop to it .

100% it's still there,sorry.
Part of the agreement/wordings somewhere mentions identifying duties for lapsing for when the vans come back to the office.

Lapsing/absorbing is here to stay.

Lapsing/absorbtion is part of pay and mod 2007, that agreement is still 100% live and vaild. However it is NOT compuslory to absorb/lapse outdoor work. The weekly resource meetings that the DOM/REP have should determine if any absorbtion is to take place. I have told my DOM absorb the indoor and overtime the outdoor.

The use of a low "model week" in the revisions and the idea of "flexing up" were supposed to do away with lapsing.
However, if you have more man/hours than work available then lapsing is an inevitable outcome.

Unfortunatley I belive my D.O does, so when the DOM brings to the DSM's attention delivery point growth, the DSM responds by enquiring about OPGS going home early. DP growth is now at breaking point so its put in pressure overtime or do some jiggling about to accomadate DP growth.
