How many new starters quit?

I am new to being a postman and it seems to me like many newbies quit. As a rough guide how many new starters would you say quit in the first couple of months?

The turnover of staff used to be quite high, now howerver with the way the economy is any job is a job if you no what I mean, saying that I'd hazard a guess at around 30/40% quit within the first couple of months, Im consider quiting every day and Ive been here over 4 years.

Two were supposed to start at our office today... they never turned up... two more supposed to be starting next Monday.

We've had a couple of newbies quit in the first 6 months, another one lasted 18 months.

I was in a large new group and we lost 4 in the first month. All on full time 6 month contracts.

We started in February btw.

I would say 50% go within the first month or so as its not what they expected.

Back in the day,when I started their was a group of 13 of us .... we were all postal cadets ....
That was nearly 24 years now,and out of those 13,only two remain .... me and a very good friend of mine.
He has since left Royal Mail Letters ( he saw the light ),and took over the running of a small rural post office,which is nearer to his parents ...
Now i'm on the verge of leaving The Royal Fail .... sad times ....

The vast Experience you have now counts for nothing hence the Royal Fail, pride in the job is now over shadowed by non-stop mail that flows our way even though management tell us mail volumes are failing so whatever you decide to do my friend you can hold your head held high as you pass the baton to the next generation of Royal Fail employees.......... good luck.

I'd say it's approx' 35% in our office that stay for longer than a year,
but i'll never forget a classic one about 6 years ago where we had a fella start as a postie, he'd been in the army for 20 years, then went on to be a driving instructor for a short time,
but found the hours very unsociable (he had a family),
his thinking was, posties start early, so must finish early, he'd be home in time for the kids when they came home from school etc etc,
after his training and so forth .......


he lasted 2 days on his own before he quit,

20 years service for the army, 2 days at Royal Mail finished him off.

As far as i know only one has left. With today's current job climate i don't think people can afford to just
quit.

that suggests that people dont care about the current job market and just cant handle the job so quit.

I think there were five of us started when I did, and only one has left. His problem really was that he was a bit of a doormat but thought he wasn't. He was tired of working more hours than he was paid for, so his idea of being strong was handing in his notice. Strength would have been working his hours instead of being a prat. Nothing against him though because he was a nice enough bloke, he just got infected by RM syndrome where it's all about chasing da time, man.
