I have twisted my knee and it looks like I will be unable to do my walk for 10 days or so.
What is the sickness procedure nowadays? ( I haven't had any sickness for the last 4 years) and a bloke in our office said something about not having to get signed off but I would have to get a fit for work certificate.

you can self certificate for up to 7 days, then you need a doctors note to cover you from the start of your time off.
You should also inform your your DOM/Lino, as they might want to have you in for light duties, (callers office etc), what you can and cannot do will be decided by ATOS, if it goes that far.
