I just happened to walk in to a conversation (as I'dgone in to book excees) in the Managers office. The bottom line was;
Postie being told that he could not book excess
If you finish early (on say a Tuesday) then you can't book excess until you have made that time back... Coz you are paid for 40 hrs for the week ; not 8 hrs per day
I had to say something... and said that was 'Banking hours' , which is not allowed / agreed etc etc
The response was ' it's in the agreement'.
Cue disdain from me . And asked them to produce the part of the agreement that says this.
I await the response.
BTW; this is not a dig at these managers. They are both decent people. But they are towing the party line.

Re: Banking hours and no overtime
Banking hours is not agreed but they are allowed to suggest using the 'flexibility' rule where they can owe you 30mins incase its quieter during the week. But saying that OT for going over on your walk seems to have become near impossible to get in most DOs from the posts i have seen on here. In my DO even the loudest, aggresive and argumentitive people cant get paid for going over anymore! A couple of linos have even been demoted for actually paying people for the hours they have worked

2010 agreement is below...

Just tell them to f**k off, party line or not.And it's not in pay & mod either. In fact it's not in any agreement.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Then I'd be leaving it behind, not willing to pay then it's not getting doneGeorge door to dawes wrote:Banking hours is not agreed but they are allowed to suggest using the 'flexibility' rule where they can owe you 30mins incase its quieter during the week. I'd have said fine, when autumn pressure arrives I will work 40 hours and then take the rest of the week off...........ok boss?
4 x 10 hour days and bish bash bosh.......fri, sat, sun off - result
See what the response would have been then! lol

Understand that and like the response. Said something similar myself. But the bottom line ; and the one I will argue , is that they cannot Bank Hours.SexyLegs wrote:If you finish early (on say a Tuesday) then you can't book excess until you have made that time back... Re: Banking hours and no overtime
Okay,we had this exact thing attempted to be imposed in our office well over 12months ago...
A few simple questions...
Whose responsibility is it to ensure you have enough work each day?
If i have to work back my time yet some individuals are still placed on 'job and finish' is that tantamount to being singled out or individually agrieved?
Do you or any other manager have the authority to make me work beyond my contractual hours(forced overtime)?
Can you show me the local/National agreement regarding swings and roundabouts?
Quite simply they will only get away with it if you let them.
Of course they are 'towing the line' but you must raise this issue with the area rep and get it sorted.
btw they will try and argue that it's 'flexibility' but again this has to be agreed.

Could not agree more. Flexibility has nothing to do with this ; nor does the old classic 'swings and roundabouts'
It is encumbent on the Managers to provide you with gainful work when you return. If they cannot and you are told that you can go... Not your problem. Swings and any sort of roundabout do not come into this.
