Over 4 hours gets a break?

Hi

Been working as walking postman for 6 months now - 20 hours a week. As a newbie, I've been given a long walk. I was originally told it was a 5 hour walk and to claim an hours overtime every morning - but then the whip cracked and they said just claim anything over your 4 hours - which I do most days.

Yesterday, another postman told me that if my walk goes over 4 hours (from the time I start work at the sorting office), I am immediately due a 20 min paid break. Is this true?

Way Forward agreement from 200o holds the field on this one and it says:

So being on 4 hours per day you are already entitled to a 20 minute break - to get the next 10 minutes of breaks you need to 5 hours.

That's a bummer aint it RM,you employ someone for 4 hrs a day,then you have to take off 20 mins,then travelling time.

Whats the policy with someone working 8 hours a day, entitled to a 40 minute unpaid lunch break, but the break is after 3 hours work, meaning there is 4hrs 20mins left of the shift after lunch? Should our lunchbreaks be later (at least 3hrs 20 into the shift) or does the block of hours worked not matter as long as the 40mins are given?

The legal position on breaks is that you should have at least 20 mins in a 6hr period and that any break should be as near as possible to the middle of your working day so on both counts it would be considered that your break was reasonable.

Have you got a work place coach and if yes have you been coached?
If not i would put in a claim for the money owed as you have been either misinformed or not informed.
If yes and the coach coached you that person needs to be pulled up and i would personally still put in a claim.

No. No trained work place coach. There was only one available for the 13 starters and I didn't get him.

However - I think there is going to be a fuss if I try to claim this back - as it will also be a dig at their local training (or lack of). I fear I will not get re-contracted in 2 months if I push this. I am thinking that I did get the money I was expecting, so maybe I will chalk it up to experience and claim from now on.

Most use this as a bullying tool.Unfortunately,the chalking up thing is probably the only option.
