uneven lapsing what can i do about it?

We had a change in lapsing recently more rounds added to the mix hence longer lapsing.

Mine is about 50 houses and has massive driveways, low letterboxes, and a couple of busy schools. One school has had a refit recently and the new entrance is a good 5 minutes walk (no access to bike). everyday i leave the office with about 4 heavy bundles of lapsing and loads of packets (all for the same houses everyday i might add) all in all it takes me about 40 minutes on a good day.

My gripe however is someone else has 50 houses from the same round ends up with a couple of light bundles no packets and they are very easy delivery points terraced houses.

I start my lapsing ten minutes before him and he still finishes ten minutes before me so it takes him about 20 minutes. Its not an even share in my eyes. I mentioned this when they first set up this nonsense to the line manager but no result.

Is there anything i can do about it? or is it like everything in Royal Mail at the minute nothing we can do

we dont have set lapsing you just take what ever you want you never get the same bit

Tell the f***ers you cant manage it all, it shouldnt be set lapsing, only what you can manager within your time.

Do you have sufficient time to complete both your lapsing and your own walk within the hours that you are paid to work?
If yes, then there's no problem. If no, then point out to your line manager that you will be unable to complete your own duty if made to take part of the lapsed duty. Then the responsibility rests with him to sort it out.

Don't work yourself up over what someone else might or might not be doing. All it will do is make you unhappy, and it ain't worth it.

Always the same mate, don't know how some people can end up with an extra bag and some just wander out with a couple of bundles under their arm!

We're due to start Lapsing again soon, doesn't really bother me I just claim the OT and often pick up a bit that's left when i get back to the office. A couple of the lads have a crafty trick, they just say, "I'll do me Lapsing when I get back, if I've got some time left". needless to say they've never got any time left! I know they're meant to do it before their own Duty but they get away with it.

My lapsing only takes about 6 minutes. no drive ways, doors basically on the side walk. While others i have done take a good 30 minutes.

I would always insist on not taking it with you.
i dont wish to do overtime ! never have ! and since its a gifted postie who can judge their finish time

As was mentioned, do you complete your round and lapsing within your contracted hours? If so get on with it and stop moaning, if not then cut off!

I'm guessing you don't have P & L yet? Be grateful, when you do get it you wont have time to worry about who's doing what and you wont make any time. Then you will realise how ridiculous it is to moan about someone else finishing ten minutes earlier than you!

on a good day no council letters, no dfs offers to every house, 1 door to door etc yes my round is easy compared to others no hassle from awkward customers.
I always work to time i have no choice in the matter young kids with relatives, so never take overtime offered, so when im snowed under i do not take the set lapsing and cut off. makes me laugh though because they then break up my lapsing into 4 parts so effectively im doing 4x lapsing everyday.
im not bothered about the other guy getting less, he works as hard as me and hes a good guy to have on your side. so fair play to him for being so lucky in the allocation.

I just think its unfair how management have planned this debarcle simply based upon the number of houses not taking into account the road layout or weight of the average day's mail. no P+L yet but they keep telling us its round the corner we are dreading it. Do they lapse with P+L? how is that even possible?

I do 5 to 10, depending on duty I'm covering. Takes about 7-8 minutes.

No lapsing with P & L at least not in my office, they are too busy trying to deal with all the cutoffs to risk any more bags being brought back!


The biggest unfair thing brought in in recent years was the D2Ds fiasco. Some people now get 6 lots in a week while others get zero all for the same money. I guess the beauty of P & L means that all the people with excessive D2Ds have to do is stick them in thier cut off bags and all's level again!

Our "summer lapsing" started this week don't think anyones been doing it but have heard those that refuse to take it out been getting grief so most take it out and bring it back,I feel sorry for people who live on lapsed duties.
