After leaving Royal Mail ?

I know so many people who left RM but now want to come back because they found out that RM is not that bad and not many companies out there pay so good pay?

The only thing I can say about RM was a decent hourly rate for an unskilled job. Other than that, I'm absolutely glad to be out and won't want to come back :)

When I joined RM 15 years ago, the job was quite reasonable. Now however, its gone completely down the pan. The working conditions are dire. Everybody is out for themselves. Some taking meal reliefs, some getting out and running, some fiddling docket - often with senior people knowing what's going on. There's no guidance or information from the weak union, local union reps only doing the job to suit themselves and picking the easy jobs. This is all completely true, and when someone steps in to buy RM, it'll only worsen the situation. My advice would be, bide your time, and when you see another more suitable job, jump ship. They used to value the older more experienced postie, now they wanna get rid of them all for cheap part timers. The older guys are only hanging on for the pension, and even that has been totally destroyed. The upper echelons of the union are in bed with the Management. :dcfo :ncfo :vcfo

No no I am not a manager and I do not to be manager. I am one of you and in CWU.... as I said in post ....worked in every part of RM , even loading and unloading mail on British Railways ( rember those days ).

Suppose this depends a lot on when the people you are talking about left the company. I have only been here 14 months but even in that short time it has become a lot worse. We are pre revision as well so imagine our office will get even worse in another 6months to 1 year. So yeah you might be right if someone left a year a go they might have a different perspective to how the company was to how it is now. You also have the difference with the types of contracts available now. Life is a lot easier for a ft postman on a regular walk to say a 20 hour pt spare!

Well you must have a cushy position, that's all I'll say then old chum. Everybody in my office - 120 staff - apart from maybe 2 creeps - hate the job, and the Manager, and think the union are dire. I also know posties in other offices in my area, and they say the same. I merely posted that if that poster is happy after 40 years in the job, AND ' financially made a bomb working for RM', could theoretically be a manager. As we all know managers do very little and are paid ' a bomb' for doing nowt. Besides, how do you know that he ain't a manager spouting off rhetoric on here? :dcfo :ncfo :vcfo

Strange argument - If I am not happy doing the job so no one can be, and they must have a cushy job.

I enjoy the job its the best I have ever had - But I hate the crap that comes with it. It is possible you know.

I love providing a service, I love interacting with the public, I love the physical challenge. I hate unrealistic workloads, I hate the managerial culture, I hate the them and us attitude - so on balance I like the job.

Like most things in life its a shade of Grey not Black and White.

Thats for you and others to decide but it does not stop him posting it and it does not stop what he says being true or outright lies. Everyone has to make a judgement on others posts and posts saying "your a manger" and nothing else adds nothing to the debate. What we ask people is to counter the post with facts and opinions and not just resort to calling them a manager and nothing else.

I ve put in over 22 years now and iam not as happy with the length of deliveries than i once was. As for leaving iam not stupid and i know that the money is GOOD for the grade of skill we have.

As for people leaving i only speak to retired posties and they all look back with rose tinted glasses and miss the job.

All i do know is that when they try to cover a delivery with agency staff i never see the same person come back 2 days running

I would imagine that on leaving you would miss the banter that you get in the office and the laughs you often shared in,it is the only thing that keeps you sane most of the time.
I am bideing my time also and aim to pack it in hopefully in 2013,its just a shame that an excellant workforce like ours is being treated so wrongly,the problem is that the dickheads running the royal mail are the same ones running the country.How differant this country would be if it was the working classes running it.

Why FFS!!!! They both do the same job,only one gets paid 40 hrs and one gets paid 20 hrs,what you really mean is your jealous because you ain't got full time,sorry but you should have thought about that before you took the job,and before you try to shoot me down,i've been doing this job 14 years and it took me 7 years before i got full time.The big difference now is they tell you at the interview theres plenty of overtime to make your full time hours but in reality thats not the case,whereas years ago there was always plenty of overtime,i regularly got £100+ twice yearly s/a payments because of the amount of s/a i did, not had a penny for over 2 years,i'm afraid if you want a full time job you've come to the wrong place.
