someone said that we would have broken the contract if one of us left so was worried that we would be left without a duty and made to leave sub not knowing what duty from week to week

Have you checked the paperwork and or contract that you signed up to. I would have thought that this scenario would have been covered in it.

We have a number of job shares in our office, when someone leaves then you just do your contracted hours, or if there is someone else who wants to job share, then you can share with them.

i am only thinking about job share at the moment and was just getting all the information i can before i sign anything thank you for your answers
trythat can i just ask do they do there contract hours on the shared duty or go back to their old duty i do not want to end up a leave reserve not knowing what duty i am on i have asked my union rep to find out but was wondering what others did

We have a number of job shares in our office, when someone leaves then you just do your contracted hours, or if there is someone else who wants to job share, then you can share with them.

- probably a bit like with van sharing when one person leaves, they don't take the van with them or anything like that.

The shared duty is your duty, there is no old duty, generally you'll stay where you are, and do the duty with the share being done on OT. Most of our shares are 24 hour contracts, and you work a every other week. We have 6 week rotates in our office, so we all work 48 hours (well 6 * 7:48). We've got a couple that do just 3 days a week, they don't mind being on fixed days, especially the person who does Mon & Tue and we've even got just a Saturday lad , we try and help everyone out.
