Vote from 3.5 hours from 2.5 hours?

As I understand it, until SDD the walk length used to be 2.5 hrs? I remember seeing mention of a vote to go up to 3.5 hours? How much did this pass by and what carrot did they dangle? Because what a massive error that was. A few measly quid versus aching legs and knees?

SDD brought us in deliveries the single biggest basic pay rise we've ever had...£26.28.
Would i give it back for my old delivery?...in a heartbeat but that was never on the table.

Well the result was a five day week, after about 15 years of a six day week with a 2.5 first delivery followed by a 1 hour second delivery a single 3.5 hour delivery giving you an extra day off each week seemed a great idea, ofcourse once the second delivery went so did people taking thier breaks and the rest is history, now the DOM in my office with the delivery methods revision is talking about a 5 hour delivery

I was 18 years old when i stated this job, a 2.5 delivery was fine as is a 3.5 now, but i'm in my 40s now and we have members in thier 60s, the CWU are allowing 5 hour deliverys? It won't happen in my office as i will fight tooth and nail to stop it, but it is happening, we all knew this so called deal was bad, how come those at the top were so blinded?

I agree but we did vote it in for whatever reason. The question now must be be how do we make the best of it?

The second delivery was never financially sustainable.
What was it - 25% of resources dedicated to delivering 4% of the mail. As a p/t at the time I remember seeing f/t staff going out with 6 letters and a packet and that was supposed to be 1hr delivery. (And they still had the cheek to goose half the letters. Meanwhile I was struggling doing a 1st and a 1st/2nd to get a bit of o/t - 5hrs/day and you could do it 6 days/week)
The SDD made sense but the move to a later start to accomodate that 4% of mail didn't.

The standards for 1st class mail are completely arbitrary. We could have kept the early deliveries if only they had dropped the standard for 1st class mail.

It's been said before.
If the delivery methods no longer reflect the mail profile neither do the first class standards.
How much of the mail in your frame is time sensitive?
It may be a dangerous route to go down though...3 deliveries a week etc.

Same old story Harry they dangle a £1000 carrot (sound familiar) and all the dickheads go "Oooh...gimmee gimmee...show me the money, that'll pay for me next holiday/plasma TV/Boob Job (insert as applicable)". They vote in a load of crap, without really looking at it in any detail (..money..money..money!) and then when they're given a duty they don't like, which is too long, starts much later and they've lost their SA collection. They then start moaning about how much money they've lost over the year and what a crap deal this was and trying to find some else to blame! FFS.

Too true mate. Which is why I deliver D2D's that would have earned me over £50 at one time for £20 minus £12 early-shift allowance and (for some) minus £8 driving allowance. In other words - f**k All!

aye i remember that.,,,,,'job and finish'. siiigh wasnt it that berkly hunt leighton that said we could have that?,,,,,,,,,then, years later when some had been using their cars and coming in early, and not taking their breaks, and were finishing nearly 2 hrs before their time, they sharp changed their tune though didnt they. this was the beginning of the end.
