Face To Face Interview

I’ve been off sick for one day and I’ve just got a phone call from the deputy manager saying that if I’m still off by Saturday. They might want me to come in that morning for an interview.
I’m not on a stage and have not been absent from work in nearly 2 years. My guess is the DOM thinks I’ve gone away for the week
Do these interviews really exist or is he trying to catch me out?

It's all part of their contact strategy.
He's ticking the boxes like a good little boy.

tell him to come out to your house to see you allso contact the union and tel them your not happy about it been so soon into your sick

Call his bluff, explain you're too unwell to attend and would he mind coming to visit you.

Just for the record I had this exact scenario earlier this year and I contacted Union HQ. This is their reply, hope it helps.


"Having now had the opportunity to read your email, Royal Mail management have issued un-agreed guidelines on sick absence managing back in 2004 and it seems apparent that your local manager has even gone far beyond those un-agreed guidelines. For the record you should contact your local CWU Representative and challenge the Manager’s actions through the grievance procedure, bearing in mind he has not adhered to the existing agreed attendance procedure. If you are unsure who your local area representatives are please contact with your work office details and we will endeavour to assist you with providing the correct level of representation".

Curious as to what is going to happen at this interview...

I am writing in response to your email on the 15/02/2011. We have considered your request under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In your email you requested the following:

“….could you please provide the number of frontline managers in delivery and processing within Royal Mail Letters who have had medical training to a level that they can ascertain the health of an employee and give advice as to what work the employee can safely do within the business group as apposed to a doctors certificate.”

I can confirm that we do not hold information of the description specified in your request. Employee health services are managed by an external provider on behalf of Royal Mail.

I'm sorry that we can not be more helpful but the information you have requested is not held.

I've contacted the CWU Branch Secretary by Email but I've not had a response yet.
If it comes to it I'll go to his interview and probably puke over his desk. I told him I was ill.
I would have felt a bit better with some representation or even a witness but he's talking about 10 am Saturday morning when there's no one else about

If you want to make them squirm phone up and say you can't make it at that time but 2.30pm on saturday would be ideal.

I know,bloke at work went in at my place,the screw said well you look ok,he said back well you aint a doc are ya,what you say means nothing to me.

Ring the Branch Secretary - more direct, less chance of it being classed as Spam as via email!

Got this reply from the Branch Secretary " Such interviews are outside of the attendance procedure and tantamount to harassment and bullying" and" if they want assess your suitability for work then they should make an appointment with ATOS"
Phoned the DOM this morning to tell him I'm not going to be in work today (2nd day off sick). Say's he can't manage a face to face on Saturday now, it might have to wait till next week

Problem is templated letters they send out says...
