Can anyone give me any info on taking a sabbatical? How long does it take to apply and get it approved, is there any minimum/maximum time, does there have to be a really good reason for one or is just needing a break a good enough one? I know you cannot get another job etc..thanks for any info

its meant to be quite hard to get one -well it was years ago ! i guess a lot depends on your record etc i dont know how long you have been a postie but i would think carefully as doubt your duty will be there/or the same when you get back !! to be fair now the jobs changed so much its a good time to move on anyway if you can !! hope this helps in some way !! answer will depend on your office im guessing but good luck anyway - if you dont ask your never know !

thanks, been with RM for 13 years with a pretty good record so should pass that test, as for leaving a duty we had an office re-pick recently and I ended up with a crap duty so no worries with that either. Think I will pursue this further its an interesting option.

I'm looking to take advantage of this. I want to travel America and visit Australia, Thailand, and some other places.

I have the savings, but I don't fancy my chances of being given a career break as I have only just been here for two years, despite having great attendance.

my sister, who worked for RM for a period of time, got a sabbatical for doing placements for uni.

she was part time, and only had 2-3 years seniority, so yeah, you can get one.

you will be lucky to get one several people at my office put in for them and were refused "cant recruit against them" and were forced out of there jobs (postmen for many years) ...just another way to p*ss people off and shed jobs
