Overtime

Hey Guys
Just got my start date which is 16th of july, im only on a 20 hour contract , but id like more hours

is there always overtime avalible ?? and doing what

you goy any other info on overtime which i could do with knowing too ?

Good luck ! The business is in a mess , doubt your get much OT it's pretty much all stopped now ! However where sickness is higher now and rounds can't get finished you could proberbly get some bits to make your money up a little ! Hope all goes well for you anyway ! Don't be a door mat !

Cheers mate :) i was quite looking fowad to starting working for royal mail until i got reading these forums, your right after reading through all these you would think it was in quite a mess , but il have to wait and see , hopefully its not as bad as people make it out to be.

Really depends on your office mate tbh.i started 2 years ago,since then 6 or 7 people have left(not replaced) and even with the walk increases and absorbtion i still usually get 40+ hours...............absolutely knackered most days though!

Depends on the office. We have between 10-15 walks each day up on the board for overtime. Sometimes 20+ on a Saturday. You can fill your boots for overtime really. Some guys doing 30 hours a week Complete shambles.

In answer to the original question: there is an overtime board where you can sign for walks that aren't covered. In our office, you get paid 2 hours 30 minutes for 1/2 walk and 5 hours to take the whole walk. Sometimes, when desperate, they'll offer a quarter. But remember, you actually get a slightly lower rate for overtime. I really wouldn't worry about this in the first few months though. Learn some walks first and then maybe sign for the ones you know on overtime. Don't do what I did. I felt under a bit of pressure when I arrived, on a contract, and got offered 1/2 walk on overtime and didn't want to say no. This was only 3 weeks into the job. Didn't know the walk and it was complex. I was still out at 4pm in the middle of summer

In our office there is overtime everyday on the 6 rurals except tuesday! It really does depend on your office!
