If I started as a xmas casual and went straight to a FT contract with no gaps, (ie continuous employment) when does my seniority start? I'm getting conflicting answers and need someone to clarify.

13.6 All service within an appropriate grade, whether on permanent or temporary basis, will count for seniority purposes, with the exception of any periods worked on a casual contract, or during a career break or sabbatical. Unpaid leave will count provided there is no break in contact. Service after age 60 will continue to count. However service must be continuous for seniority purposes, with periods prior to any break in contract (due to re-employment, for example) not generally included, unless there are exceptional circumstances applying to particular cases that are agreed at local level.

I think from the day you start! It goes by you pay number too if im correct. I know mine is ten numbers later than my mates and he got the run due to seniority, he started the same week as me!

I read this, so does that mean my seniority began when I joined as a casual?

A Xmas casual is not the same as a regular casual who comes in when needed whereas Xmas staff are on temporary contracts which can be made full time?

Well I think this has been confirmed by the answers given.
Meaning your seniority starts from when you joined the company on a substantive contract.
And not when you were working as a casual

It's length of continuous RM employment and the tie-breakers are any other periods of Royal Mail service on other grades, secondly, date of selection and, thirdly, date of birth.
Nothing else.

Never heard of it myself - I have heard of Date of Birth being used as a Tie Breaker but not Pay Number.
