Part timer advice

Hi All. Relative newbie postie wanting a little advice regarding hours and planning. I'm on a 20 hour 6 month contract which isn't great but I'll take what I can given the current climate.
This week I was rostered to work 5 days on what has become my usual walk (0700-1400) with Wednesday as a day off. Happy with that, more hours, more pay etc. So, today (Thursday) I'm in my car on the way in to work when I get a phone call from the office to say they've got more staff than they need so I'm not required. This is now the 4th time this has happened. Last time I was at my frame when they phoned me! Where do I stand? Can RM continue to do this or as I'm down for a particular duty that has been posted 2 weeks in advance and not a spare / reserve can they just say I'm not required?
I'm getting really hacked off with been messed about. I understand there is a need for flexibility and I'll go along with that to a point. But, surely ringing up as you're on your way to work having planned your family / personal life based on the roster isn't right?

We have no rep at our office (not that the last one was any good any way) so I'm a bit stuck as to who to ask for advice. I'd like to go in tomorrow (hopefully) with the right info so I know where I stand.

as long as your getting 20 hrs pay i wouldnt moan

Have you a rep,they can't just phone you up a few mins before you start to tell you they don't need you.
If you are 'in' work (at the correct time,none of this coming in early bollox) then the rep should make sure you get paid for at least the hrs you are there,a good rep would get you the full days pay.
A decent rep would get this sorted,they are taking the piss.

The incident where I'd got to work already was sorted and I got paid for the work I did. But it's the 3 other occasions (in 2 months) that really cheeses me off where I'm in the car on my way to work when I get a call.
As I said in the OP we don't have a rep in office so I'm feeling a bit stuck as to where to find out what the score is.

Well next time they ask you to come in on your day off or early then tell them if they cancel it same scenario then you want paid or your not doing it again . The manager is just covering all his bases . If hes stuck he knows hes got you to fall back on . Hes taking the piss .

You should be paid for all the hours you were asked to come in and cover. If you are asked the day before to come in and cover then you are entitled to the pay for those hours.

my advice may sound odd but its somewhat your fault. I know you are good person but remember Managers will take your kindness as weakness.
I would say, man up & tell them no i cant do that cuz i have engagements - simply communicate 'NO'
