Question regarding D2D's

Post by RetroJunkie »

Basically what has happened in my office is that some part timers start and finish times have been changed. as only the part timers made from 24 hour contracts to 30 are absorbing.

we where all changed to 8 til 2 with a half hour break, with in that time you had to come in prep what needed prepping from that point, do the usual kill offs, redirections & mark packets, then have the option of doing the absorption before or after your full delivery.

Now after about a week or so of this i was then told by management to come in at 9 so that would make me 9 til 3 with a 30 min break as i work 6 hour days.

Basically when doing this nothing obv needs prepping when coming into work, but the door 2 doors are always left, i saw a lino today and he said i had to prep my own door 2 doors, this was after i had come back from the absorption as ive been going in and just tying that up going out and delivering it and coming back to do the kill offs etc before tying up the full delivery to go out again to deliver that.

Obv appears my question has been answered, just wondering what you guys think regarding the door 2 doors and should i be prepping them myself or not ?

if you have the time to prep them and complete your duty then yes, if you cant complete your duty then its up to your manager to decide what he wants you to do within your time

Is your rep involved in the changing duty times to suit?

It's pretty much impossible to compare duties but I have 5 hours for a few letters, packets, redirections, kill-offs, D2d prep, then bag-up and deliver, including 30 minutes of lapsing/absorbing. It's just about do-able in the summer.

What I would say, as a fellow part-timer, is take your break in the office or forget about it. There's nothing in the rules which says you can finish 20/30 minutes early due to your break

Just for clarification, are you finishing within your contracted six hours when doing your own walk plus the absorbtion and taking your meal break allowance?

If yes, it is not unreasonable to be prepping D2Ds for the following day, as "job and finish" is not supposed to exist any more. This subject becomes more complicated if your "double prepper" that is leaving D2Ds for you to prep is regularly finishing before their contract time... Why should you be made to work your contract hours if your prepper is being paid to "sit in the garden" during contracted hours?

If you are going past your contracted six hours doing the above and are happy doing so, is your overtime being paid correctly? If you go past 7 hours, don't forget you are entitled to another 10 minutes meal relief that day. If you only want to work your contracted hours and feel there is too much to do in that time, you are not compelled to do the overtime and you should inform your lino as soon as possible before you leave the office, overtime is optional and not compulsary.

I know of an office that's just had a guy suspended for dumping D2D's.

Interesting. I am on a 6 hour day. And I have to do everything (except IPS). All prep , all D2D's all Killoffs etc , etc.

Same in my office - even the 5 hour duties prep their own D2D.

We have always been told by our Rep to do what you are told to do, then if you don't want to go over... you cut off.... they soon realise they can't have you for the time indoors and expect you to complete out doors.
