HI I have just started working as a casual postman and have been informed by a manager that as I work on a 0 hour contract I am not entitled to holiday pay,
obviously I have been working at least 30 hours a week, is this correct,

No...it's garbage.
On a 0hr contract you are entitled to an average of the previous 12 weeks.
And WTF is with a 0hr contract anyway.

Yes I thought the CWU and RM had an agreement that 0 and 1 hour contracts were not on.

Agency and casual workers are entitled to holidays under the Working Time Regulations 1998 in the same way as other workers.
They may have a different means of allocation..but they still accrue the same amount.

We have had a few casual contracts in our office, you will be employed for a maximum of 12 weeks and then let go for 2 weeks so they don't need to put u on a temporary or permanent contract, u will be paid for the 12 weeks and then get a weeks holiday pay in the 13th week, u do get holiday pay its just your boss doesn't put through the hours on the pay spreadsheet like he does for the other 12 weeks its paid automatically by hr

No

The reason is that all overtime is voluntary within Royal Mail. Whitemoor won his case partly on the argument that a 1 hour contract was not feasible with respect to the amount of work he was expected to do. In other words RM did not give him a task/duty that could be done within 1 hour each and every week. They placed him on duties that took so many hours and therefore he was entitled to claim holiday pay at the average of the preceeding 12 weeks.

A 30 hour contract would not meet these provisions.

BTW of course the judgement was in legal language and I may have my interpretation wrong on some point but hopefully the general picture is correct.

Thanks for all your replies but still a bit confused I always thought that holiday pay was worked out on an average of what you work regardless of your contracted hours,
Also how do I bring the matter up now without rocking the boat too much as I am only 3 weeks into the contract and only asked as was going to book a holiday later in the year.

I get Royal Mail pay slips,

On your pay slip,top right it will say 'Pay rate' what does that say,if you're on a '0' hr contract that would say 00.00.
