Did my first shift today...

hi all. did my first delivery. I was shadowed but got on ok with it. enjoyed in and everything. just have a quick question. as i only started today (had induction monday) im not on any rota yet so i don't know what other day I'm going to be off this week besides Sunday of course. I'm on 35 hours a week monday to saturday with rotated day off. would it be ok to ask the manager what day I should take off? dont wanna seem like im trying to get away just want to know am I going to working be right up until saturday or will I have either thurs, fri or saturday off. I'm definatly in tomorrow. (wednesday).

all in all is it ok to ask ' hey what other day am i off this week'

Not long started myself but it goes up on a board usually with the round and day off on it.

Be warned though if you are a reserve your day off will not run in order. It did for me during my "trial period" that 6 week window. After that it changes quite a bit Fridays/Saturdays off with no consistency.

However, as you are still being puppy walked it might be best to have a word with the trainer and see if he knows. If they don't then ask the manager which day you are off - he may ask you to do some overtime though, whether you do or not is entirely up to you.

ok cool, I'll ask my trainer tomorrow to she if she can find out for me. How soon will my name appear on the duty board? I'm guessing it maybe after this week? Once I've been trained?? Because apparantly I'm gonna be on the same walk all week with the trainer. to be honest i turned up today, spoke to the manager for like all 2 minutes and he put me with my trainer, he didnt say about duty boards, clocking in (if that exsists) just asked have i got some paperwork from my induction etc etc...all seemed rushed....

ok cheers. i'd probably feel better asking the trainer and then her coming back to me rather then going to the see the manager straight off the cuff.

glad to see your enjoying your new job with royal mail.Ive worked for them for 15 years so far.please let me give you some advise:dont get caught in the trap of trying to make time by rushing bad news in long run,once you have settled in enjoy your self and get involed in the bannter in the mornings with the lads:don"t trust your manager to much this will come clear in about 4 to 10 months:dont do customers favers eg signing for anything:keep your friends close your enimes closer.do this and you will be fine good luck!

No offence but how did you get 35 hour contract, at the moment they are only giving out 25 hours if youa re lucky, I habe been with them over 4 LONG years and am only on 32.5 hours contract?. Is a relative a boss :)

If you are contracted to work a five-day week then obviously you are entitled to a day off in addition to Sunday, so don't be shy about asking your manager which day it is. Also, if he/she asks you to work your day off, don't feel obligated to do so - in most offices there is no shortage of overtime vultures who will happily descend should you decline.

If in doubt about anything ask your trainer. I am assuming they are your office work time coach and as such get paid extra each week in order to train you up so make them work for thier money cos most weeks they don't!

Get your coach to ask the staffing officer for you, besides if you are new to the job Royal Mail made a pledge I believe that newbies stayed on a walk for a certain amount of time (2-4 weeks was it?)
