recruiting 16 year olds
so they only have to pay £5.39 per hour;
Postman/Woman - Braintree
Hours of work: Part time, 6 hours per week (7:00am - 1:00pm on Saturday)
Salary: Age 16 - £5.39, Age 17 - £6.29, Age 18 and above - £8.08 per hour plus overtime and shift allowance if applicable
why they vary their pay rates? a 16/17 year old would be expected to do the job in the same time as anyone else

Re: recruiting 16 year olds
Same debate around the minimum wage I suppose, which also varies depending on age. Something like 3.60 an hour if you're 16.resperin wrote:so they only have to pay £5.39 per hour;

And then they could go - You're fired.noggin1969 wrote:They could always call them apprentices , the apprentice minimum wage is £2.50 per hour !!!!!
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

You say that but we had a 17 year old start at my DO he was still cooerced into taking the same bags as everyone else which are over weight for us to begin with.Hitcher wrote:For starters much lighter bags.resperin wrote:why they vary their pay rates? a 16/17 year old would be expected to do the job in the same time as anyone else

Re: recruiting 16 year olds
Not many new starters last no matter the age! The bag weight rule is supposed to be there to protect growing bodies from serious damage. We had another young lad at my DO who had to leave as management bullied him into working with a bad back causing him permanent damage. Pretty shocking really! Obviously the lino in question has been promoted and the boy is still fighting for compensationdemon wrote:young ones carnt do this job anyway to hard the dont last

I think it's more a case of they realise the job is s**t and move on as soon as possible.demon wrote:young ones carnt do this job anyway to hard the dont last

Re: recruiting 16 year olds
Thats probably very true! The rest of us just have more grown up things to consider such as bills and kids etc. I know i quit much better jobs then RM when i was younger purely out of boredom!wiganpostie wrote:I think it's more a case of they realise the job is s**t and move on as soon as possible.demon wrote:young ones carnt do this job anyway to hard the dont last

Re: recruiting 16 year olds
Without a doubt, the job is never gonna get easier no matter how many years you put into it as a new starter.wiganpostie wrote:I think it's more a case of they realise the job is s**t and move on as soon as possible.demon wrote:young ones carnt do this job anyway to hard the dont last
Ive been here for a year and 3 months, i would imagine it would take me another 3 years maybe just to get a float section.
that's if they don't show me the door before they have to make me permanent that is
same old problems, and bad bad management, i'm fed up of the place, but they will have to show me the door, not me leave on my own accord.

Re: recruiting 16 year olds
We have a job ad for posties from the early 70s on one of the noticeboards in our office and the starting rate for under 18s is mentioned on there so they have been doing this for at least 40 years!

Re: recruiting 16 year olds
They always put 2 little kids on walks together in my office on a saturday. So the wages maybe bad but they don't have to do a lot for it really?
Union what Union? Do we have a union?
