How do you get to your round?

Just wondering how people get about? I have worked for royal mail for around 6-7 weeks or so and have so far worked around the town centre so been easy to get to from our depot. Next week I an being put much further out around 2.7 miles according to my phone. Considering walks are around 6 miles aren't they? I have done that distance cycling to and from. Going to take me at least half hour each way as I don't know where it is.
Spoke to my manager and he says the Guy cycles out there usually but you can be sure if I ask the guys around Monday they will probably say he uses a car, seems very common for people to use their own transport and I refuse to.

They really don't tell you very much when you start basically point you in direction and get on with it. I think I read some where on a new walk they have to show you it if unsure, I know for a fact it will take me past my 5 hours. Where would I stand on 'cutting off' if I don't want to work past my 5?

I'm getting quite annoyed and constantly being moved and working past my time and being robbed off with s**t excuses "start later to make up for your time" etc...

You should be taken out by the driver. I'm sometimes on walks outside a reasonable threshold and I get taken out - with my bike. Sometimes I bike back if it's steady ground and manageable distance. 2.7 miles shouldn't take you half an hour though, twenty minutes max even on a RM bike (unless it's uphill, although uphill one way means downhill the other).

And the 5 hours you do is really only 4 and a half with your break so DO 4 and a half and not 5 and over .

They cant make you do overtime .

In my office everyone gets lifts out, but have to find their own way back.

I can't wait to go on the walk 10+ miles away with a bus back once an hour.

Overtime: 2.0 hrs. Reason: Waiting for bus, bus journey back, walk from bus station to office.

So in theory, doing this duty, you'd only do 30 mins delivering.

(two hours prep, two hours travelling, 30 mins break..)

Not a problem at present, everyone either cycles out onto their duty or they've got a van. After Revision everyone's either going to have their own van or they'll be sharing one !

Cycle out approx 1 mile in top gear downhill, and pray that the wind is in the right direction on the way back

I personally have a van to get to mine, singleton vans are the real way forward (but not Bippers)

All vans at my office, all the convey duties have gone so we all have our own van or have to double up. No one uses their own cars, if caught doing so you will be taken down the conduct route. The WHOLE county has the same rule.
