Re: Callers Office advice needed
as far as I am aware callers office are still considered a PHG duty ( in my office anyway) even though PHG's no longer exist really
when ours was advertised last the candidates had to sit an ' PHG' test and of all those that passed the most senior got the position ( actual test scores did not count only passes ie. if one person got a much higher score but was junior the senior man still got it even though they got a lower score but passed)
having said that though if there is an indoor duty and we have a DDA person needing a duty they usually get it if the pass the test no matter what the seniority issue
not sure of the official stance on this someone more knowledgable than me may do

Yeah this sounds familiar...the old we will give an office favourite a job(women always seemed to get them in our office..sorry but true
. )
Then you will get the ole we can't find you a role indoors bullshit(even though a reasonable adjustment under the Equality Act should be enforced if you've a disability) Royal Fail is now spouting out as they think you won't take it to a tribunal(as there big wig solicitors Weightmans advise them it's a good idea)l so they offer you a `generous` IHR pay off hoping you will just go away.

Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09

Re: Callers Office advice needed
The thing is, if your paid for being a postman, and u can't do that job, then yes they can IHR you
The week before I left I was still asked to cover locker til 8pm on the wednesday, so there was actually work there for me if you see what i mean.
You should get your rep involved in this process as stated above.
As for the women comment... Was blokes in our office for years, 2 women have worked in there due to injuries in the time I was there. Or it could just be that women are better at communicating than men, therefore are better at dealing with the moaning public who like to complain ;)

An interview for the Callers duty is normal. You have to be 'suitable' for the position...dealing with the public, cash handling etc.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
Illegitimi non carborundum

Re: Callers Office advice needed
Before I was finished and while I was on restricted duties, I was assigned to the callers office. I found out that I was actually quite good at it and enjoyed it. Unfortunately there were no vacancies there or I'd have agitated for a permanent transfer. But that's the thing. There are usually one or two permanent duties in there, augmented by whoever is on rehab at the time. The permanent callers staff have to go away on a course to learn all RM product. Their helpers dont.
Chucky's question:
If you appeal, they will look at the medical evidence and whether the DUM did it by the book or not. If you win the appeal, you pay back the lump sum and get reinstated. If not, just carry on as you were.
Chucky's question:
If ATOS agree you qualify, your DUM can give you a finish date and pay you the lump sum. You can accept or appeal but you cant delay it. The finish day is final. But can they force you to take IHR?

Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?

Firing on health grounds an expensive mistake
Employers who fire workers on health grounds are being hit by large penalties at employment tribunals. Scottish postal worker Ronald Agnew, who was dismissed for being overweight, this week won his job back and was awarded £24,278 compensation. He was originally taken off delivery duties, but ended up losing his job on health grounds when his managers at Royal Mail claimed they could not find another job for him. Agnew claimed he was treated unfairly, as other workers had been given the chance to undertake lighter duties to avoid dismissal. The tribunal ruled that the decision to dismiss Agnew, who suffered from kidney problems and fluid retention, was unreasonable and unfair. The tribunal chair Frances Eccles said Royal Mail was a large employer and attempts to find Agnew alternative duties to accommodate his medical condition had been inadequate.

See, Agnew won because his manager did not do it by the book.
