RM Supporting Education

Hi There , I am new to this site but I wondered if somebody may be kind enough to offer me some Advise. I am currently A full time reserve postman and have been at RM for 3.5 years. I have been offered a place at university starting in september which I have accepted. I would like to stay on at Royal Mail on a part time basis hopefully working the 2 free days I will have free which will be friday and saturday. I was just wondering if anyone might know what Royal Mail policy might be on supporting people like myself to stay on a part time basis if studying? Also what concerns me is that a new policy has just been introduced in my office where all part timers start are to become 6 hour days. Now I was hoping that I would be able to be on a 16 hr contract working two 8 hr days. If they are going to change my start time to a later time I am not sure if I will be able to manage on 12 hrs a week. And I also feel it would be unfair to change the length of my working day considering I am a full time permanent member of staff. I would be very greatful if perhaps a union rep or anyone else might be able to advise me on my rights regarding this so I am clued up before having a conversation with my manager . I have to be honest I can't give you any advice - However, what you might be able to do is contact your branch and see if they have a ULR (Union Learning Rep) they may be able to offer advice.


There is also a group on FaceBook that has just started called - CWU Education and Training - However it is a closed group. If you want check my signature add me as a friend and I can add you to the group. They might be able to offer advice as well.
