My wages...

Hi everyone. I'm due to start work with Royal Mail on 27th June 2011. I just got my contract through the post and was just reading through my Rate of Pay section. It says:

Your starting pay will be at the rate of £323.57 per week. (pro rata for part time).

Just for the record my hours are part time at 35 per week.

Can anyone tell me how much I can expect per week? And also I presume I will be weekly paid?

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!

Depending on your age and if you are paying into the pension plan expect to take home about £250. Yes you will be paid weekly on a Friday.

I believe I've been enrolled into the pension plan...though I'm only Fixed-Term contract at the moment so whether I'll be there after that remains to be seen. Oh and by the way I'm 27. So i dunno if that helps?

if your part time,,,,,the figure of 323.57 is based on a new starter doing 40 hrs,,so £8.09 an hr...so you say your 35 hrs so £283 ish before stoppages and alike.

When i started i was paying into the pension from week 1 so dunno if its changed .

Decided I didnt wanna pay it anymore and asked for a refund and got it .... ALL of it

How do I join?

You may be enrolled automatically.
If you’re a full-time or part-time permanent or fixed term (but not casual) employee under age 63, you will have joined the Plan as a Waiting Period member when you started working for Royal Mail Group (this means Royal Mail, Parcelforce Worldwide and Post Office Limited and any other employer admitted to the Plan). When you are in the Waiting Period, you will be automatically covered for life assurance benefit (at no cost to you) from when you started working for Royal Mail Group.
After a Waiting Period of 12 months’ continuous service with Royal Mail Group, you will automatically be included in the Plan for pension benefits, as long as you are aged 18 at that point. If you have not reached 18 at the end of this waiting period you will join the Plan for pension benefits when you reach 18.

Pension plan "C standard" (the common one) about £18 a week.

You pay 3% of your Pensionable Pay (see page 9) or more if you wish.

Royal Mail Group pays At least 5% of your Pensionable Pay.
The more you pay, the more Royal Mail Group pays (up to a certain limit)

Is it just me that finds it strange that a new starter is on 35 hrs a week?

In my office there are loads of us on 25 hrs. Scratching around for overtime to make ends meet. We'd expect one of us to be made up to at least 35 hrs, before any new starters getting 35 hrs.

maybe in a mail centre they take on 35 hr contracts

They dont do 35 houyr contracts its 25 36.5 and 40, maybe hes got his numbers wrong took me a year to go from 25 to 32.5 and Ive been there 4 years.

We've 2 p/timers in my office on 35hr contracts.
