RM profits down? Mail volumes falling? Modernisation!

So, Moya Greene took home a higher wage than Mr Crozier did last year, and the Pime Minister this year! I dont think profits are down due to falling mail volumes. Mail volumes have changed. Commercial mail is the greatest its ever been. Online ordering is still growing. This year THREE times as many parcels, packets, and ordered goods went through the system. As Greeny said she wants a "slimmed down postal service". The only way this can work is if they "SLIM DOWN" the ammount of crap mail, encourage SERIOUSE customers, as the did in the 70s and early 80s and go back to conventional delivery methods. Royal Mail Posties always deliver to customers all over the country. We dont want new uniforms, or a van for every two postmen in the country (and I know alot of people who think its a step towards some sort of warped franchise scheme!)

well said ! it has been devastating to see the managers rip all the frames apart and set up the new gigantic frames , you just know by looking at them they are far big with crazy ways of working !! theres no way earnings through overtime will ever be like they were if any and this really is the end of the way we used to do things . whats your views ? anyone leaving ?? or put up and shut up !!? cheers

The 2 man van thing could potentially be a franchise possibility. After all because the same criteria was used to produce the walks they could be sold as being pretty much equal ,add in some sort of banding for customer types , Tesco could do the data for this, and you would then be able to price up the delivery walk.Gets rid of pensions, holidays employer contributions and all sorts of other issues , sounds like a goer to me.

Doesnt to me! Id rather take on a SUCCESSFUL franchise! I cant see many people wanting to buy into a failing business, if it is failing? Moira?

This was a fact that was stated in last months courier as well so we not making it up! Mail is down but packets are up as are d2d and recordeds yet we are expected somehow to do more work for less pay!

PIP is having a impact. RM are using PIP to measure the differing traffic streams, which means letters go down and large letters go up. Of course a box of what we call large letters and a box of A4/flat mail will differ in terms of amount. A box will hold less A4 mail than it would normal letters that would not make standard size due to PIP.

Its a joke!At our MC they are now counting things like cheque books as flats (large letters)!!!

Large letter traffic figures for my D.O are UP normal letters are down. One hopes the increase is good match for normal letters that have been transfered due to PIP.

I did not know that i thought it was just the mail we handled.

Trouble is the mail always seems up but the frames / deliveries are now almost twice as long so its very hard to tell

Your so right about the gigantic Super frames..Two rounds and a bit into one..When I sit at the front, it curves right round both sides...I feel like I'm playing the organ at York Minster Cathedral..."And now Hymn 739.. Morning has broken"..

Well the problem with RM lies with the managers who cant seem to accept that van share doesnt work, and are too shy to admit this to upper management! Some offices have had to provide vans for single rounds because they cant fit two rounds in! Van share EXTENDS the time it takes to do two rounds, costs the company MORE, and as for a country that is supposed to be watching its CO2 emissions, speaks volumes!
