Our right to a quiet working environment

In the small office where I work there are certain colleagues that are driving me insane with their constant inane drivel. Every day is the same; talking complete bull****, repeating the same catchphrases over and over every day which may be amusing on hearing once but not repeated every day ad nauseam, tuneless whistling and singing, and their constant complaint of how much work they have to do and how hard they work then always being first to finish usually hours before their contracted finish time.

It is really getting to the stage where I am going to flip and somebody is going to get their teeth rammed down their throat. I am not a violent person but there is only so much anyone can take. I am not suggesting a library like environment, I obviously expect the usual workplace banter but what happens in my office is more like what I imagine a psychiatric unit must be like. The way things are going I may get to find out first-hand.

Seriously though you get this type of banter in these type of work environments so either join in, ignore it or get some personal music to listen to.

Just because you don't like it then it shouldn't happen Just do what I do and zone out and concentrate on your work, it's you who needs to change not everybody else

You just have to accept that working with morons is part of the job - their inane catchphrases and calling out the same old drivell goes on year after year. Its their way of getting through the day - its like sheep going `baa, baa` or cows mooing or linos asking if you have done your redirections. Rise above it and be polite to the sorry soles.

We have one in our office, and he hums a christmas song about 7 times during the morning, vibrates his legs against the desk, leaves his boxes on his desk and van when he finnishes. Hes just a lazy winding **** and does the lot intentionally! He does it to annoy the whole office and he knows that it does as hes been told to wise up a few times! We work in a very small office so it effects the lot of us and pisses us all off.

To be honest even if your collegues are the most annoyinging retarded beings on the planet they still should have equal rights in the work place. Just get some headphones and play some music if your that bothered by it. Being honest you should be greatful that a large proportion of your day is spent out delivering as in most jobs you would have to put up with idiots all day! I had an admin job recently where i sat in a small office where two young ladies would just talk about weddings for 8hours a day! Occasionally i would work in the office next door which was populated with 1 old lady whos only interest was gardening and another fat old lady whos only interest was food! Now that was torture. So yeah headphones or just stop being miserable and deal with it as you have zero rights for a quiet workplace.

The smaller the office, the more one notices the inane daily comments from ones colleagues. It's never more than ten minutes into the start of the day when one of them comes up with "Did you watch ....?" and then it's a half hour discussion about whatever crap was on TV the previous evening as if what's happens in some soap is of vital to the future of mankind, football and Daily Mail type comments about immigrants and the workshy being the only other topics of conversation. I just keep thinking they should get out more.

Theres one guy in our office that barks like a dog makes all manor of animal noises at the top of his voice, loudly talks to himself, imitates other posties etc etc etc etc..... what can you do? It used to really really get under my skin then I realised that he deserved my sympathy not my anger he can't help it... after realising that I was able to block it out. He's mid 40's lives at home, has no social life or skills and without wishing to sound in anyway mean is almost certainly a virgin.

As for the others that should know better... well!

Out of interest what are the catch phrases that get shouted out? In ours its " The workloads going down!" & "Get your cheque book out Governor!" or " Its all going out TODAY!" on particularly heavy days

Can't its a health and safety issue.... you need to be able to hear the fire alarms and an "Oi! get out of the way!" if needed. DOM here is trying to ban iPods etc on these grounds!
