Can I have leave without pay while I wait for a transfer?

Partner has moved away to a new job with my daughter and I am planning to follow once the house has sold.
Been told that the office in the town will only take on 25/30 hr contracts in if there are any vacancies.
So I have brought my hours down to 30 from 40 and will change in 2 weeks and the Dom said I can go onto a 4 day week Weds to saturday so I can have 3 days with the family I am commuting every weekend 150 miles by train managing to swop my day off for a Monday.
Thing is the house should complete in 3 weeks and I will be homeless but could get accomadation with friends but dont really want to go down that route.
Applied for transfer 2 months ago but not heard a thing, is it possible to go on leave without pay untill the transfer comes through as it will help as we have a child who will need me during the school holidays.
Lucky enough to be in a postion not to need a wage as we are renting and I will have my buy down money 5K to dip into.

Who should I be nudging the union ? or HR it is getting a bit stressful for my daughter and partner and for me to a certain extent tears @ the station every Monday night is hard.

i would not hold your breath for a transfer, i travelled 230 miles and stayed with friends (was on a 4 night week) for over a year and in the end left, the office i wanted to go to was taking on xmas staff and i asked for that told no, that casual is still working there.
i applied for a job in the office i wanted 10 months later and got it

Tip we give in theses circumstances is to go down to the offices you want to move to yourself,do not rely in the internal transfer thing.

Not necessarily,fair enough if they are very short staffed already but they don't HAVE to recruit,lets be honest,some offices haven't been for years.

Isn't there such thing as a ' career break', i don't know if there's a certain length of time you have to have off - but if you have a bit of money to play with maybe that could be a solution. And in the meantime your transfer probably would have been sorted.

My Dom has been very helpfull rang up the other Dom and put a very good word in for me but I was after fulltime when I first asked.
Spoke to the Dom in person in the office where i want to go but I think I put the frightners on him as he seemed very rabbit in headlights material anyway they are going through a delivery methods revision and have overloaded the office with casual staff so no vacancies untill everything settles down.
Asked about a career break but you have to have a minimun of 6 months.

Suppose it does not help if you are very pro union

I would of thought in this kind circumstance you could agree a set time off with no pay.

Do you have a good Sick Record as this can go against you and the new DOM would probably not take you on an make excuses.

Been on a stage 1 once about 4 years ago so its clear at the mo. 1 week off 2 weeks ago due to a kidney infection first absence in 18 months.
