Lost a special.

I can't for the life of me think what I have done with it. In all probability I just put it through forgetting it was a special. But theres always that little niggling thought that I've put it through the wrong door etc. I said to my DoM about this and never tried to hide my mistake which I own up to. I've been told its unlikey I will get my jotters over this so what the worst Im looking at if it does not turn up?

It's not about it not 'turning up' as such,if no one makes a complaint/claim then your screw 'should' understand that we're only human and mistakes can be made.
If someone puts a claim in then it depends what a tosser your screw is (we're only human and mistakes can be made).

You sound like a good conscientious postie and you must obviously be worried, my advice is try not to worry and if you have a half decent manager he will support you and treat it as a genuine mistake, like the above said we all make mistakes.

I put it down to doing too much work in the time we have to do the work in.

I did this one saturday morning, after i'd put a docket through! Had no idea where it went. Funnily enough the bloke who it was for was absolutely fine about it and actually made a point of going to see my dim and telling him to leave me be, we all make mistakes etc. It turned up on the Tuesday morning in my walk sorted mail, so some honest person put it back in the post!! Good luck mate!

Postmen at my work are getting charged after getting caught by "trojan"
1 was that he had his van unlocked. How many times!!!
The other postie, is someone i get on well with. in his case, he had his van locked but had a special sitting on the passenger seat. Dont know what the charge is, but they have a meeting next week.
Has any1 had any dealings like these, they are both full time with 10 years plus service.
Can they get dismissed

Very unlikely, probably be put on record for 12 months.

It is possible if they are charged with Deliberate disregard of health, safety and security procedures or instructions as that falls under Gross Misconduct but showing a "reasonable assumption" that it was a deliberate act and not simply a mistake would be difficult.

Unlike Lofari were his was a genuine mistake, leaving an item on the passenger seat is a no no, we have all signed WTL sheets having been shown a film NOT to leave anything on the passenger seat or in the drivers cabin, to leave a special there is a crime perhaps he should not cut corners and stop making the job work for Royal Mail and do the job how it should be done by working from the back of the van, sounds harsh I know but would you leave a loved ones handbag containing valuables on view in YOUR car.
Punishment should be put on walks for 12 months, he will not do it again. (hope he gets off though)

No because it's in breach of the security guidelines so you can guarantee he would hang you out to dry without even thinking about it....his job or yours?

He is setting you up for a big fall, do the job how it should be done, takes 15 seconds to put an item in the back of the van, not worth losing yer job for 15 seconds of work, well that is how I view it
