Royal Mail Letters New National Safety Director Appointment

Royal Mail Letters have announced the appointment of Ricky McAulay the current London Regional Safety Director as the new National Director of Safety who becomes the permanent replacement for Norman Smith who left the Business last July. The post has been temporarily covered for the last year by Mark Gordon.

Ricky takes up his new position on Monday 25 July and has indicated that he wishes to establish a close working relationship with the CWU National Health Safety & Environment Dept and CWU Area Safety Representatives, establishing a good level of involvement and consultation working closely with the CWU in line with the agreed Royal Mail Group Health & Safety Policy.

To this end Ricky has asked for an early meeting with myself to set out a clear strategy and priorities and to start joint working at the earliest opportunity.

how many times have we heard all this baloney 'bout elf 'n' safety no1 priority etc.etc.

its only when it suits RM does H&S come into play ,when the proverbial sh*t hits the fan its out da window,but on sayin'that the biggest culprits are our own muckers.

Do you think we will get a new series of H&S videos and posters for WTL. Some sill arse does something wrong and then a Cockney girl shouting Ricky
at an etremely high volume point out where they went wrong.

I put my trust in our CWU National Health, Safety & Environment Officer to tell the same Ricky how it is and more importantly how it should be. Only time will tell if a close working relationship has indeed been reached, but such is life there will of course naturally be a bedding in period.

Our health, our safety, doesn't count for feck all.
Health and safety is just something that both RM and the CWU can use to club each other over the head with, we, the workers, are just incidental, that's all.
If, the health and safety of all postal workers truly mattered, we wouldn't be constantly subjected to longer walks in all weathers, would we.

ANd if we abided by the H&S rules? Most Posties don't and wont bother to follow the rules ... and yet moan about them. How many ways do you want to have it?

Do the job properley

Then of course there would be no lapsing etc , etc

You could be wrong... I think that H&S has been highlighted a bit more by Reps and R.M. thats because of the world we live in and the ambulance chases out there now. Some Managers are trying however most use the rules to suit themselves and could not give a sh1t.

Hopefully Mr McAulay has a different slant ...I am sure he used to be somewhere in Scotland ?
