Does anyone work in a delivery office where the opening hours require your dom to tell you that they are looking for one person to do the door on there own,I don't agree with this policy and wondered if anyone has done this or is doing this and how they feel and also if locking up are you entitled to leadership allowance.

I use to work in the Callers Office. When I was on the late shift (7pm close) I use to have to lock/cash up etc, never got leadership allowance. Used to hate it in the winter when it was dark and no one was about. Since I stopped working in there a silent alarm direct to the police station has been fitted.

There are days I unlock in the morning and lock up in the afternoon, sometimes noone else about, no allowance for that or for driving, just the £20.60 a week Delivery Supplement everyone gets for working full time.

This seems to be such a grey area,and there seems to be many answers to the same question.

1:I always thought 2 HAD to open/lock up the office for security reasons.
2:And a risk assesment done for working in a building alone,but then at the end of the shift the open/lock up thing comes into play.

Anyone know for sure the score of the 2,i would say and argue 1&2 should be 2(peeps).
We have argued this in our office and have won...........for the time being anyway.

The union doesn't have an issue with lone working as long as a proper risk assessment has been done and it has been decided that this is suitable.

We have also agreed the process to be followed before the offices go live, which is estimated to be mid-July at the earliest. An initial questionnaire will be sent to Delivery Office Managers (DOM) during May aimed at establishing what, if any, additional work will be needed to comply with the Health & Safety requirements. Area H&S Representatives will need to ensure that Unit Representatives are fully involved with this because this will determine the go live date for each individual office. Discussions will then take place between the DOM, Unit Representative and H&S Rep to identify any further issues that need to be resolved such as resourcing and lone working.

I don't know of any cast iron rule for locking up but if you are producing a risk assessment document for lone working you can't ignore what happens at the end of the shift.

Yeah on late shift there was only 1 locking up in our office. Usually a short arsed woman, me. Did get quite freaky in there on your own, especially when the wind was blowing around the building and causing all sorts of noises. Always parked my car right next to the door I exited by, and opened the car from inside so i just had to lock the door and jump in the car
