Cutting Off

Needless to say, the office was busy this morning. We had so much mail that it was obvious to all that we were not going to finish on time, and as I had something on in the afternoon, I would not be able to work over my time. My colleague who does the other side of the Park and Loop duty went to speak to the manager, and was basically told that he was obviously lying, and that we could easily complete the duty. We knew we would not be able to. My office also has the policy that if you take mail out, you MUST deliver it, cut offs are not allowed!

My question is this: If you tell your manager that you are not going to finish because it is too busy, and you DO have to cut off, what are our rights in this case?

You do not have to work beyond your time that is the LAW!

if you have told him you cannot complete before going out but he makes you take it all the rules are you contact him 30 minuits before the end of your duty and tell him you are bringing it back and are not doing overtime. he cannot do a thing as this is the agreed overunning mail procedure.

Down 'ere it's the area managers that controls all the actions of our Dom's, anyway the latest tactic to ensure we do not dare ask to cut off is that we'll have to do our full time on saturdays...I told him I already do :)
Our revision isn't happening until Jan 2012 so we have eight and ten hour rurals leaving the same time as town walks...and it's the walks that come in early, use their cars and never ever cut off. Obviously this makes it difficult for those of us who do our time.

Cut off in NW London.......Your suspended the next day for Wilful Delay or Lost Faith in a delivery officer. No matter what Your arguments are...Its bully boy tactics at its best, trying to frighten all staff not to cut off.....

They do realise that when they accuse you of wilful delay they are acussing you of commiting a criminal offence! ask them to call the police, w*****s!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

To be fair sometimes the simplest things are made the most difficult - is it down to the corporate style within RM. :hmmmm

Also the managers try to isolate people both at the initial stage "Well dave does it everyday", and if you stick to your guns "Ok lets talk about this in the office" and then they try to intimidate you passing snide comments, and questioning your comitment. Its as though they have a flow chart and stick to it no matter the situation.

Didn't say you do BUT if anyone can point me to the specific Statue in law that makes it illegal I'll eat my RM uniform. Why does everyone seem to turn into a legal expert..... what counts here is what it says in your contract.
