Doing a round in another office on contracted hours/day

I'm hoping someone can help.

I've been told i have to go to another office as they are short on people. I realize that we have the flexibility part in our contract but this isn't the first time this has happened. The don't seem to send anyone else and it seems that because i will go to other offices during the week when i'm not contracted they assume they can just send me when i am. Unfortunately i do not trust to many people too talk about it.

What are my rights? I think they'll expect me to take my car but i feel i shouldn't have to as i'm helping the company out on my contracted day. It isn't for my benefit as during the week would be. They want me at my office initially in case anyone is sick and then i'm expected to go to the other office once everything is covered. If i went to my office for 6 and then traveled to the other office later on would this constitute my contracted hours? For instance if i went in at 6 left my office at 7 and got to the other at 7.30, would this mean that if i was contracted for 5 hours on that day that i would only have 3 hours 30mins left to work?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. That would mean that you had only 3 hours & 30 mins left which would include travelling back to your office within your time.
Do NOT take your car. If you refuse to take your car and insist on getting a lift there & back then I am sure you will find that they wont
ask you to go to another office.

As well as your contract hours go from your office to return to your office.

If u use your car once they will automatically assume u will use it every time,
u say they don't seem to send anyone else, well, u have to convince them u aren't a pushover,
turn up at your office bang on time (don't arrive a minute early),
DO NOT use your car,
take your breaks,
and insist on being returned to your office at your due finishing time.

Job done.......

to be honest, i can't really understand why people get so stressed about being shipped off to other offices,
follow the advice given here, u wouldn't finish later than u were at your "home" office.

Thanks. I followed the advice. Told them i wouldn't take my car so they gave me a van. As i started at 6 i told the office that i went to about an hour and a half later that i wouldn't finish past 11 and i didn't.

my dom thinks mileage allowance is a myth.
now when i have to go to a neighboroing office again soon im playing hardball.

he owes me over 2 weeks expenses from the last time

I work in another office 20 miles away from my own I get paid 40p per mile T & S I don't claim travelling time as such but I get paid full time there. I am on a 30 hour contract. I don't mind because it is a better office than my own.

With your car insurance are you insured to be at another office as some insurance company's will only insure you to your place of employment and not to another office if not then you should have business insurance, you may have to pay extra or they may give you that free as part of your insurance,find out because if you get fed up with keep doing the movement to another office then that maybe one thing to chuck at your DIM your not insured so if they need you to go to another office then they will have to get you there and back within your duty time.
