weve just been told we cant have 1 in 4 saturdays off and we cant have the shift patterns we voted for. so basically they broke the egreement what can we do . any other offices in same situation ? ? ?

We too are 1 in 4 saturdays off, this was after we voted for another type of shift, it is all to do with how dominant your DOM is and how weak we posties/union are to allow it, as far as I am led to believe this shift pattern has to be signed off by the union, could be wrong though.

I could say pointless things like contact your ADR,branch,Bob Gibson etc but as you are well aware since you have already been screwed over by your Area Rep over 100BSI and your unit rep is already fighting "unwanted area intervention" most of that is just nonsense.
It would seem that some areas have their own agenda for the revisions and what you want is of little consideration.
According to the union we are about to embark on the largest membership consultation in the history of the union so maybe you will get the chance to have your say...
I wouldn't hold your breath though,you will probably just be called a weak office.

There is no point hiding from the truth...you don't learn anything that way.
I am a big fan of unions in general and have been a union member all my working life and a member of the CWU for many years.
I am seriously concerned about the direction the union is taking at national level,those who are steering that particular course and the culture of self preservation at branch and national level that appears to be overriding the wishes and aspirations of the membership they are paid to represent.

No 1/3, 1/4 Saturdays at my office, it won't work and tbh we all knew it would'nt. We've been given a choice of 3 duty patterns, 5 on 1 off, rotating day off or fixed day. AFAIK 80% of the office have gone for 5/1.

I left the union over the national agreement, the shafting we got from the RM management, Area and Div union levels allowed this to happen over our wishes.

To me, that's not what a union is about, it's about reresenting the BEST inerests and wishes of its members.

I HAVE just rejoined the union as I've transferred to a new office and want to be involved in this feckin revision. Sadly the Area and Div reps are the same, so I know what's coming, at the moment in my new office the local rep and members are confident they have good grounds for opposing the revision, as we once were.

Local reps are working hard but something sinister is afoot, and shadowy agendas are being brought to the table.

I know what you mean FT, but I'd like to change 'self preservation' to 'self destruction' because that's the way things are going.

The simple answer is dont agree the revision. The agreement allows you to have them. The national agreement does not state you have to work at 100BSi .

Some times you have to go to disagreement and hold the line. The reality is that if you hold your line then you should get support from your Branch and National level.

Fishtank I really dont know where your coming from on this issue. Certainly I would say I have a bigger view of the overall picture and I dont any self preservation happening.

What I do see on this site is that London members seem to not count to some on here as having a right to be protected. The reality is that London stands up for itself and that means we have some power and Royal Mail do listen to that. If another office always surrenders to anything where do you think Royal Mail will attack 9 times out of ten.

London is not the enemy , Royal Mail"s attacks are the problem and yet most on here still attack the London membership for daring to fight what it believes is complusory redundnacies. You could not make it up.

ps. my office isin't getting a revision because they have to put hours in and as for the BSI100, well, the DOM is constantly telling us we're not working to it and that he's being asked to explain why to his bosses.

I have heard it all now I am now guilty of starting the anti London theme. What a load of rubbish. What I an other reps do is protect the members I am elected to do to the best of our abilities.

Now that does not mean we dont support the fight of others we do. Now in terms of weaker offices , well I am afaid that sometimes the fight must start at the local office. Yes the national union should assist the local offices but when an office thinks its is not getting the right agreement then they need to either stand up for itself or surrender.

Now there are plenty of offices around the UK who do this and thats why the CWU are still strong in a lot of workplaces throughout the UK. However lets be honest here some offices have always been weak and accept things to easy. Now the debate is not to blame them but to encourage and help them to stand up for themselves. Too many on here like to play the blame game and whilst this is a site of opinions its a lot harder for those of us who have to move things on in offices where there are problems.

My comment on this thread had nothing to do with London or the London members.
If anything i was actually talking about some members of my own branch and on that count at least..i would say that i was the one with the "bigger view".

Completely agree with this - we have had various disagreements with our new revision which was meant to live in March. The latest one was where we finished, this had an effect on whether we got travelling time, we now get 15 minutes. IIRC we also fought over 100BSI and walk span for bag on shoulder.
